Naturopathic Care

Naturopathic Medicine is a simple yet complex  natural approach to health and healing that takes into consideration the whole person, not just their symptoms.  Naturopathic Medicine emphasizes the treatment of the disease through the stimulation, enhancement , and support of the individuals own inherent healing capacity.  The practice of Naturopathic Medicine emerges from several underlying principles of healing, which have their roots in Indian (Ayurveda), Chinese (Traditional Chinese Medicine), Native American, and Greek Cultures.  These principles are based on the objective observation of the nature of health and disease, and are continually reexamined.

  • Vis Medicatrix Nature - The healing power of nature.  The body and the healing powers are both uniquely organized and unfathomably intelligent.  By educating the client to get out of their body's way and let it accomplish its primary job of REPAIR and HEALING and supporting the body with proper nutrition, the body will use its own innate healing abilities to restore and maintain health.
  • Tolle Causam - To identify and treat the cause, not just the symptoms.   All illness has a cause.  This underlying cause must be found and treated for a complete recovery.  Symptoms are only an expression of a disease, a signal,  and should not be suppressed by treatment.  The casual factor may occur on the  physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual level.  Naturopathic Medicine works with the whole person and conditions that may affect the whole person including health and disease.  "Universal" interaction between physical, spiritual, mental, emotional, genetic, environmental, social, and other factors is necessary to achieve optimal health and prevention of disease.
  • Primum Non Nocere - To first do no harm.  Symptoms are an expression by the body to alert you to make changes so it can heal itself, and should not be suppressed.  Removing the underlying cause of the disease is the correct approach.  Suppressing symptoms is harmful and is to be avoided or minimized at all cost.
  • Docere - The physician as a teacher.  A healthy, sensitive relationship with the patient is of great therapeutic value, with the physician acting as a catalyst to encourage the patient to take responsibility for their health.  It is the patient, not the physician, who ultimately causes the healing response.
  • Ultimately, prevention is the best "cure".   The ultimate goal of Naturopathic Medicine is prevention.  This is accomplished through education, promotion of lifestyle changes, and body therapies that lead to good health.  The emphasis is on building health rather than on fighting disease.

Naturopathic Medicine emphasizes the treatment of disease through the stimulation, enhancement, and support of the unique and inherent healing capacity of the person.  It is an art, science, philosophy, and practice of diagnosing, treating, and preventing disease.
