Highlights: 
The first Australian world champion was a rower - Edward Trickett, who won the title on the Thames in England in 1876. Australia has competed at every Olympic Games of the modern era. The greatest collective expression of the nation's sport talent was at the summer Olympics held in Sydney in 2000, followed by the Paralympics. At the Sydney Games, Australia won 58 medals [including 16 gold], spread across 20 disciplines of sport.
