Version 2.088 is ready for download and includes the following player requests, improvements, and bug fixes:

- Graphics engine performance increased substantially, especially on low to medium level 3D cards.
- Mouse direction flight control system enhanced for better response and accuracy.
- Joystick HAT control can now be set to manage lateral and vertical strafe thrusters.
- For player created star systems, planets can now be placed inside nebula clouds without atmosphere and gravity problems.
- Wormhole scaling corrected at certain distances.
- The Phantom cannon occasionably had shifting textures after changing flight controls in-game, now fixed.

One of the biggest struggles for players using low end 3D cards has been performance. Players using GeForce FX 5200, 2/4 MX, first generation Radeons, and several laptop accelerators have often had difficulty getting decent framerates and frequently also encounter sound stuttering/clicking as a result. Version 2.088 improves performance by scaling certain object mesh polygon levels at various distances. Both video and main system memory resources have also been reduced in this version to further improve performance.

Variable asteroid field sizes are also now possible, refer to the included NAV31.DAT template file for details. You can now place asteroids all over an entire system, if you want to. Just use a center field position of 0,0,0 and a size settings of 5.

The new graphics improvements will help make it easier to target ships and see the tracking indicators in bright light conditions (across bright planet surfaces and through lens flares for example).
