Scraping,
Cleaning and Building

First things first. The tanks
were used. Three sides were painted blue. Most of this paint was coming
off in places. Time for a good scraping!
(the first three shots don't have larger images associated
with them, sorry).

Here are the tanks, with
the paint. Shown is a 30 gallon next to a 40 gallon

Here they are stacked up
after the scraping, and washing and scrubbing them in the tub. Sorry,
no pics of me washing tanks in the tub!

Nicely, the seller gave me
bulkheads (plus two extras) to help get me on my way. Apparently, this
is one thing the Reefer needs that is NOT sold at home depot. Either mail
order, or perhaps a jacuzzi store.

Now we get to the building
of the stand
| |
After measuring out the dimensions
of the tanks (they are all the same base size) I used a circular saw and
hacked apart 7 2x4's and started putting it together. The biggest problems
is keeping it all nice a square and level (but that's why god made shims
:) )
| |
These are the screws I used.
I can't recall the length offhand, but I think if I had to do it over,
I'd have used longer screws. I had to drill the boards, otherwise they
would crack.

| |
Here is the standard pattern
I used to mount the squares from above to the 4 uprights. This was modified
slightly in a later stage due to paranoia.

Here it is on its side. Not
fully build yet, but I was spacing out the levels to make sure I could
get in to do what I needed to, but also leave enough height for the lighting
to fit.
| |
And here it is together.
Sad thing is, it was all perfectly level here, but need some rescrewing
and shims once moved to its final spot. I hate the floors here...
