SUKHUMI. Jan 12 (Interfax) - Sergei Bagapsh, a candidate for the
presidency of Georgia's breakaway province of Abkhazia, and his running
mate Raul Khajimba have cast their ballots in the presidential
elections.
Meanwhile, residents who produced documents other than the self-
proclaimed republic's passports were denied the right to vote at a
number of polling stations, whose officials said the term of validity of
such documents has expired.
"All the problems have already been dealt with and voting is
continuing as usual," Bagapsh told Interfax.
Abkhaz People's Party chairman Yakub Lakoba is running in the
elections, as well.
The elections need to draw a voter turnout of at least 50% to be
declared valid. The winner must receive more than 50% of the vote.
