*** OK, since I have a few minutes to kill I'll elaborate on my comments re: FROGGY!. Hearing that song tripped me into this huge pool of Boy Scout Camp nostalgia. I'm just thinking of all the skits and songs we would do (the same ones every year, but nobody cared). So there was froggy, and the Banana Song (GO BANANA! GO! GO BANANA!), and the enlarging machine skit ("I don't believe that works. *ptooey*"). We used to argue about who got to participate in "Smooth and Creamy." "Do you like it in your hair?" "Yes I like it in my hair." "In your hair?" "In my hair!" "Whoooaaaa!!"

And I just found out my best friend from home will be salutatorian this year at high school graduation. Way to go, Jen!

*** I actually did stuff yesterday. So, of course, I forgot to blog about it before I went to bed last night.

This weekend is Reunion Weekend. So campus is crawling with alums. Last evening Kevin, Matt, Janet, and I decided to go over and watch the reenactment of the torchlight ceremony, which is where a whole bunch of people with torches that spew vile black smoke walk down the big staircase that goes through Persson Hall. We got there at the very end of torchlight, just as everyone was throwing their torches into the bonfire. So we just snuck into the reunion festivities on Whitnall Field. We walked around to the different tents, looking for Moon-Pie and his brothers. Then we ran into Torri, and Kevin and I stopped to talk to her. When she left, we realised we had lost track of Matt and Janet. So Kevin and I spent most of the evening going from tent to tent, getting wetter and colder and blinder. Eventually we located them in the Class of '51 tent. We hung out there for a while, talking to Moon-Pie and watching the old people dance to the Dixieland band that was playing. We even got Janet to dance with this one alum. It wasn't the creepy guy, but it was better than nothing.

When I got home, I heard the sweet sounds of John Mars' "I Want My Drugs" being played on his keyboard by the talented Chris Reid. Oh yeah.

No Dave news at this time.

*** I talked to a person from the Internet today, on the phone. It sounds really dodgy to say I chatted with a British 15-year-old girl I met online. But it's true.

I was in #triBrunchma, the IRC channel devoted to the Brunching Shuttlecocks and populated by people from the Brunching UBB. We were discussing l33t-speak and how they turn letters into numbers. So I started yelling out random numbers, as if it meant something. sandry asked if that was my phone number. I replied that no, my phone number was 228-5768. So Kailet, the 15-year-old British girl, declared that she would call me. Then my phone rang. The conversation lasted all of five minutes, and it was mostly about how her dad was going to be mad when he saw the phone bill with a late-night call to the US.

And Sandry, another Bruncher, has a blog now. Woo!

*** Arg. I really ought to post something, since all I had yesterday was that comment about BananaConnection. But honestly, there's nothing interesting happening to me. And Blogger is taunting me by going r e a l l y s l o w . . .

I'm taking off tomorrow evening to take care of some things. Woo. Aren't you glad I told you that.

*** Rabi has a nifty new layout with a comment thinger that actually works. If BlogVoices is still down by the time Dave comes back for a visit (end of next week), I shall ask if Yuccacentric can switch.

I have six keys on my keyring now. Today I got the outside key to Alumni Hall, the key to all the main inside doors, and the key to the Longyear Museum storage area and Archaeology Lab. It gives me a feeling of awesome power. If only I hadn't had to turn in my Maroon-News key at the end of the semester. Also, Microsoft Access is a screwy program.

*** I get to actually start doing my summer research tomorrow. Prof. Kerber is going to show me around the Archaeology Lab and the Longyear Museum. Which means I have to get up at the horrible hour of 9 am. I had just realigned my sleeping schedule so I could stay asleep until noon, and now I have to change again...

Christine is back from her year in Jordan. Woo!

*** So I tried to shut down the computer again, and once more it turned itself back on. The creepiness of the situation got me wide awake, so I decided to mess around online for a bit. I complained to Sandry and genarti (two friends from the Brunching UBB) about the situation, and they somehow weaseled me into getting IRC. I ventured into the exciting #triBrunchma channel, and spent the next three hours making poop jokes.

*** I'm back at Colgate now. And I am now proud customer #4-6102571073-0 at Tops, the new grocery store that moved in where Grand Union used to be. I went to Tops because for the next three months I have to cook all my own food. I'm going to have a lot of spaghetti and peanut butter sandwiches. I also have a single room. It's weird. I have so much wall space now that one side of my room isn't open because it connects to my roommate's room. I moved all my furniture completely around, too. Now my bed is in front of my window and my desk is beside it so that I can use my computer while sitting on the bed. And I moved the dresser, which is one of those long low ones designed to fit under a bed, out and over to the other side of the room to serve as a table. I'm tired, so this all sounds very profound to me.

Somehow my watch lost exactly an hour. No wonder it seemed like it was always so much earlier than it should be.

I feel like I need to have another big paragraph here. It would make this post all symmetrical. I think that's my problem -- I don't care so much what the words say, I'm more worried about how the page looks. I'm such a layout geek. You'd think because of that I'd have a better looking personal site. But all I could come up with was bean warriors. Yeesh. White background, black text. Hoo boy.

Since I couldn't drag that thought out long enough, I'll try for two shorter paragraphs for balance. The Whitlams have a new song out. I got all excited, thinking they had a new album. But alas, it was a specially recorded song. And I'm still mad that you pretty much can't get their first two albums in the US. I need to go to Australia and find a decent CD store (which I completely failed at last time I was there).

No Dave news, but I'm sure he's disappointed in my ability to keep his readers entertained.
