Order for 2,500 sets of blasphemous magnets cancelled
TUPELO MS - Urban Outfitters, under the pressure of more than one-quarter million emails from OneMillionMoms.com and OneMillionDads.com, has announced they will no longer carry the "Jesus Dress Up" magnet sets and has cancelled an order for 2,500 more.
Meredith L. Boice , spokesperson for Urban Outfitters, Inc., told OMM/OMD, "Urban Outfitters will no longer carry this item. We will continue to sell the inventory on hand, but have decided not to reorder the item."
Urban Outfitters offered a refrigerator magnet set depicting Jesus on the cross.
A variety of clothes for "Jesus Dress Up" include a Satan mask and tights, ballerina, and dogcatcher outfit.
Jesus, wearing only briefs, allows users to "clothe" Christ in a variety of secular outfits. Other articles of clothing are a "beanie" cap, a snorkel, bunny slippers, a tuxedo, and a Dr. Seuss hat.
"We're pleased Urban Outfitters came to the same conclusion we did," said American Family Association chairman Don Wildmon. "Marketing a product insulting to the Christian faith is not a wise business choice."
