WELCOME TO LEHIGH ACRES, FLORIDA “102 SQUARE MILES IN PARADISE”
Lehigh Acres, a community of 50,000 wonderful people, close to the beaches but far enough away to be safe, near a wonderful river, but high enough to be dry. A community of diverse ages, with enough character to attract all. While developing rapidly, the greatest portion is still country. Shopping and employment opportunities to satisfy everyone.
The General Membership Luncheon scheduled for Tuesday, October 25 is CANCELLED
Due to Hurricane Wilma ALSO the Vietnam Memorial Wall will not be here this weekend and week.
Present prediction (Friday, 4:00pm) is that this storm may strike our area around 1:00 pm on Monday. With so many unknowns as to damage and the availability of utilities, we feel that it is only prudent to cancel the luncheon. It cannot be rescheduled due to future conflicts. We will reschedule our speaker, Rep. Paige Kreegel for early 2006.
We wish all of you safety during the coming days.
The Officers and Board of Directors
Here is the Chamber’s platform for current action, your response is welcomed!
BOARD ISSUES WHITE PAPER
July 22, 2005
During the course of the past several months the Board of Directors has identified certain issues of importance to the Lehigh Acres community. The Board has chosen those listed below as its platform of action. These issues are to be published for the benefit and knowledge of the community, and transmitted to county and state officials so they may be aware of our objectives.
The establishment of a Lee County office in Lehigh Acres to handle such matters as occupational licenses, building permits and to provide a source of correct information on County matters.
The establishment of a State Motor Vehicle office in Lehigh to handle driver’s licenses and related matters.
The establishment of an Advisory Committee to review zoning changes and to serve as an architectural review board, using other local communities as models.
The establishment and enforcement of landscaping standards for all new duplex housing constructed in Lehigh Acres.
An intensive study of the utilities situation in Lehigh Acres, factoring in growth and how to handle expansion of present systems.
Greater consideration to be given to the appointment of Lehigh Acres citizens to County boards and commissions, including Smart Growth and the FGUA board.
Immediate action to correct some of the present zoning shortfalls, specifically commercial zoning. Although this will be addressed by the L.A. Community Planning Corporation, some steps should be taken in advance of their final report.
Develop a Leadership Program run by the Chamber
Work toward ways of consolidating acreage for parks and large commercial ventures without the use of eminent domain.
Support for a North-South highway corridor from SR 80 to SR 82 and on to Alico Road.
Have legislature impose a 5-year moratorium on the annexation of additional Lehigh Acres land, especially the industrial park.
Greater emphasis on Code Enforcement to set high standards of cleanliness and to eliminate eye-sores
Re-establishment of the Community Rehabilitation Authority for at least a portion of Lehigh Acres.

Lehigh Acres Chamber makes Gift Giving easier!
Last November this Chamber contracted with CertifiChecks, Inc. to provide gift certificates, which could be redeemed in our member’s places of business. The company designed this product for Chambers of Commerce, and it has worked so well that they are making several improvements based on their experience.
First, the name is going to be changed from CertifiChecks to Chamber Checks, with a new logo reflecting that change.
A second improvement is the elimination of expiration dates on the certificates. Originally the gift certificates expired one year from the date imprinted on them. This is no longer the case, and certificates will be good forever.
The company is currently contacting selected employers in the Lehigh Acres marketing area, encouraging them to purchase certificates as recognition gifts, as bonuses, or to commemorate special occasions.
A pamphlet has been published listing all of our members who might logically receive our certificates as payment for goods or services. The certificates are used exactly like cash. Any change may be given in cash or store credit. They may be purchased at the Chamber office, or:

The caller is using forceful pressure tactics to convince people
to pay their dues today or they “will lose their membership benefits, etc.”
THIS IS A SCAM! DO NOT RESPOND. YOU ONLY PAY DUES TO THE LEHIGH ACRES CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, NO ONE ELSE.
Please let us know if you receive such a call.
