City Manager Joe Delegge To Give Report On Bartow: State of the City

This year City Manager Joe DeLegge, thankfully so far, will not have to describe hurricane recovery updates at his State of the City address on Thursday, October 20, 2005. He will, however, give a report on new development in Bartow at the luncheon sponsored by Citrus & Chemical Bank.

The serving line opens at 11:45 a.m. with the program beginning promptly at noon.

For over a decade, DeLegge has held the City Manager’s position. Graduating from Santa Fe High School in 1964, he got his Bachelors at the University of South Florida. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years. After spending nine years as Department Manager at Sears, Roebuck & Co., and two years as a sales representative for Curtis 1000, he worked for the City of Bartow from 1981 until 1983 as Assistant Auditor and Clerk, and from 1983-1989 as Director of Administrative Services.

DeLegge left Bartow in 1989 to become City Manager in Madison, Florida, and returned to Bartow in August 1993 as Bartow’s City Manager.

He served on the State of Florida Community Development Block Grant Advisory Council and was appointed by the Governor to serve on the Madison Hospital Board.

DeLegge is a member of the International City Managers’ Association, the Florida City and County Managers Association and past president of the Madison and Bartow Lions Club. Committees and organizations he serves include: Bartow Lions Club; Fourth of July Committee; Leadership Bartow Steering Committee; Youth Villa Golf Classic Committee; Committee of 100; Greater Bartow Chamber of Commerce Foundation; Chairman, Polk County Library Cooperative Governing Board; Executive Committee and Board of Directors, Florida Municipal Power Agency.

Tickets are $7 and may be purchased from the City of Bartow or from the Bartow Chamber. To reserve your tickets, or for more information on this or other Chamber events, please call 863-533-7125.
