Well, here we are, it’s October and hurricane season is almost over. The past 12 months have affected us all like possibly never before. Our lives have been turned upside down. As we rebuild, we now welcome out Gulf Coast neighbors in their time of need.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. With proper screening and early detection, the cure rate for breast cancer is now in the 90% level. Please encourage your friends and loved ones to get mammograms and to see their doctors for a check-up.
In September we had a Hail & Farewell for Captain Terry Jones who is retirning and to Captain David Maloney who is coming on board. The event was held at the Milton Garden Club. The food was catered by Nouveau Pastries. It was great – as usual!
On September 26, the Chamber was proud to take an active part in the 842nd Troop deployment send-off. We can’t wait to be part of the celebration for their return in 12 months! Please keep our friends and neighbors in your prayers for a safe return home. And don’t forget to drop off your old, unused cell phones at the Chamber. They will be donated to Cell Phones for Soldiers to enable our soldiers overseas to keep in touch with their loved ones at home.
It’s been a year now that the Chamber has had an advertising display installed in its Visitors’ Center. We would like to thank to those who renewed their ads and to the new advertisers who have come on board. The display is seend by hundreds of visitors and locals each month.
Believe it or not!! Exciting news on the horizon! The four-laning of Avalon Boulevard will begin shortly AND project and engineering development funding for the I-65 connector has been approved! So if everything goes as planned, we should see Highway 87 North four-laned as well in the near future.
The Annual Chamber Golf Tournament is set for Thursday, October 20th at The Moors. This is one of our most important fundraisers all year. We are excited to be back at The Moors! Now we need teams and tee sign sponsors… Even if you don’t golf, join us for a great time and help to support your Chamber.
The 69th Annual Leadership Awards & Installation Banquet is set for Saturday, January 14, 2006, at Sikes Hall. And please also note that the November Small Business Networking Lunch will be held on Thursday, November 10th, due to Veterans’ Day on Friday.
New to Milton!! There is a new club in town! Thanks to the leadership of Dick Cloutier, the City of Milton has started a Milton Rotary Club. The club was sponsored by our neighbar, the Pace Rotary Club, and is made up of business leaders in our community. The Rotary is known for their service to the community. For membership details, please contact Dick Cloutier or call the Chamber.
Please be safe. The holiday season is fast approaching.
