ARIANE LYDON
Born in Sussex, England, to a British
U.N. civil servant and a New York artist, Lydon lived in Santiago,
Chile, until she was 10. With a move to Geneva, Switzerland,
and then to France, at the age of fourteen she placed second
at the international piano competition in Paris (Concours Nerini).
The desire to study marine biology took her to Southern England
for 3 years, where she joined the Worthing College Choir and
joined in local pub sessions. She is an accomplished guitarist
and harpist, surprising audiences by playing both at
once, and an excellent singer, often compared to June
Tabor.
"Marvellous voice, brilliant harp and guitar work. I never saw anything
like
it."
-John Renbourn
"This is a voice the world needs to hear." -Lena Spencer
Ghosts, they whisper like wind on sand
And then they fold into the ocean foam
Leaving two flamenco dancers
To be the wonders, to be the wanderers,
To be the wonders of the night

Still She Moves
Ariane has made another wonderful recording, featuring her gorgeous dark
alto, flowing harp, bold guitar and keyboards. Bass, drums and percussion
fill out the recording. Her songs balance passion and serenity, betrayal
and ecstasy, playfulness and depth. There is simply no one like her; if
you have her previous recording you will want this one, and if you haven't
heard her, we can't really explain it. She's dancing with the whole thing,
and in the listening, we find we are as well.

Lady of the Green
(O'vert Records)
I am staring past the vista
Of a minute yet unseen
I'll wear the black, and
stand the rain.
I am a lady of the green
Ariane Lydon's songs affirm the transforming
power of solitude, a strong connection to nature, a welcoming
of grace. Lady of the Green offers moments of supreme beauty.
Highly recommended.
"A strong, consistent style,
which is melodic, expressively played, and has the simplicity
of folk, the rhythmic excitement of jazz, and the refinement
of classical music." -

The Open Harp
(O'vert Records)
The Open Harp is an album of instrumental pieces focussed on
Lydon's harp, with some keyboard accompaniment, and guitar on one track.
With the exception of her novel arrangement of Star of the County Down,
all of the tracks are original. The harp is not an easy instrument to
record, and Lydon has done a very good job of it here. The harp sounds
just a little bit bigger than life, with the right balance to let her
arrangements come through clearly. (JK)
