Welcome to the UNOFFICIAL site of Aviation in the Myrtle Beach area of South Carolina!
My Name is DJ and I work at the Myrtle Beach International Airport in Myrtle Beach South Carolina, and this is my Web Site. I am a Mechanic, and Private Pilot.
Thru the years I've found that the Myrtle Beach area is an Exciting area not just for tourists, but for Aviators as well. There is no shortage of white sandy beaches and sunshine, and lots of interesting things to see on the Grand Strand, not only from the ground, but from the air too!
Many of the Attractions around here really stand out from the air, such as "Alligator Adventure", in North Myrtle Beach, and yes, you can see A LOT of alligators!
Another interesting sight is just off the north end of Myrtle Beach Int'l. Final Approach into Runway 18 brings you directly over "Medieval Times", an attraction built like.. well.. A mid-evil castle! Myrtle Beach is also surrounded by Wild Life Preserves, rivers, lakes, and the Inter-coastal Waterway Corridor.
We have several smaller airports in the surrounding area also, all within 15 minutes flying time, or what I prefer to call "Cessna Time".
The "Local Airports" listing posts more information if you want to fly to, or from any of these other airports.
Although Summertime is the peak season for Myrtle Beach (or just about anywhere for that matter), flying for recreation offers year-round benefits. For the student or low time pilot, airspace congestion drops considerably in the winter months, and the mild temperatures and humidity means less turbulence, clear unlimited visibility, and perfectly smooth flying conditions for those "Low time" Pilots, or Student Pilots wanting to enhance their flying skills.
