It is also called Chevron Crochet and Flame Stitch Crochet and has become the favorite crochet pattern with Ms America through the years.
And rightly so... it works up so beautifully, so easily, and certainly looks like an intricate design in what ever form it takes... Afghan, Dress, Baby cover.
The basic stitches for crochet... chain, single crochet, increase, decrease... are all that are necessary for most of the items in the book. The larger the item, the easier it is!!
Ripple On... it’s easy!
Size: 6 months to 1 year
Baby yarn – 5 1 oz skeins blue
1 1 oz skein white
Crochet hook size F
2 ½ yds ¾ in white ribbon for sacque and cap
1 yd ½ in white ribbon for sleeves
1 yd ¾ in white ribbon for booties
Gauge: 4 sts = 1 inch for yoke
Sacque: Starting at neck, with blue, ch 70, 1 sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in next 11 sts (front), 5 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 8 sts (sleeve), 5 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 25 sts (back), 5 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 8 sts (sleeve), 5 sc in next st, 1 sc in remaining 12 sts, ch 1, turn.
Row 2: *1 hdc in each sc to center sc of 5 sc group, 3 hdc in center st, repeat from * across. Repeat from 2 for pattern for yoke (working in back lp of sts throughout) until there are 181 sts.
Next row: Work in pattern skipping sleeve sts, ch 3, turn.
Beading: Sk 1 hdc, hdc in next st, *ch 1, skip 1, hdc in next st, repeat from * across, ch 1, turn.
Ripple Bottom: With blue, inc to 216 sts evenly spaced in sc. Ch 1, turn.
Pattern: Working in back loop of sts throughout, skip 1st sc, 1 sc in next 3 sc, 3 sc in next sc, *1 sc in next 3 sc, skip 2 sc, 1 sc in next 3 sc, 3 sc in next sc, repeat from * across to last 2 sts, skip 1 st, sc in last st, ch 1, turn.
Repeat last row for pattern working 4 rows blue, *2 rows white, 2 rows blue, 2 rows white, 4 rows blue, repeat from * for color sequence for 6 inches, cut yarn.
Sleeves: On right side, work 1 hdc in each st, (39 sts) ch 1, turn. Dec 1 st each side every 6th row twice (35 sts). Work even on 35 sts until sleeve measures 4 ½ inches from underarm.
Next row: Work beading same as on waistline.
Cuff: Continue with blue, inc to 72 sts. Work ripple pattern, working 2 rows blue, 2 rows white, 2 rows blue, cut yarn.
Neck edge: Work beading as on sleeve.
Next row: inc to 153 sts. Work ripple pattern same as on sleeve cuff.
Front edge: With blue, on right side of work, work 1 row of sc to waistline, (cut blue) do not turn, join white *ch 1, skip 1 st, sc in next sc working from left to right (reverse sc). (Repeat from * to neckline, cut white). Work other side to correspond. Sew sleeve seams. Lace ribbon as illustrated.
