If
your RESEARCH were a SUPERHERO, what kind of superhero would it be?
Instructions
Select
an original research text to cut-up.
It can be something you wrote, or a text that has inspired you.
Writing from any academic discipline, from any year, and at any
stage of publication (even first drafts!) are welcome. Make sure
you have the complete text in front of you so you can quote it verbatim.
Answer the superhero themed questions below to describe the
kind of superhero you imagine this research would be. You can
only answer these questions by “quoting” the original academic
text. Use only words and phrases exactly as they appear in the
original research. No new words, no substitutions, no ellipses
“…”, no changing verb tense, etc. You already have everything
you need, exactly as it appears in the original text!
Submit and preview your manifesto. If you choose to submit your
name and email address, you can make changes now, or later.
Tips
Focus on creating
a complete, consistent superhero profile, NOT preserving
the original meaning of your research text. Don’t think about
making a perfect translation of the original text. Just try
to make a compelling character for PlaceStormers to embody.
Concentrate on giving them a clear, inspiring script to follow
when they perform your manifesto in public.
The PlaceStormers who find your
manifesto may not be academics—or if they are, they may
not be from your field. So pick words and phrases that you think
will be meaningful to all readers, or that you trust they will
be able to define creatively and interpret in new ways.
