CONFEDERATION of Southern Africa Netball Associations (Cosana) has invited the Seychelles from Zone Seven to participate in the under-21 championships and the launching of men’s netball tournament in Malawi.
Netball Association of Zambia (NAZ) president Veronica Kamona said about nine countries were expected to send teams out of which seven have already confirmed their participation.
The countries taking part are Botswana, Namibia, Zambia Malawi, South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland, Zimbabwe and the Seychelles which will take part in the tournament for the first time .
Speaking at the on going Supreme Council for Sports in Africa (SCSA) conference, Cosana president Carol Garoes, pointed out that the association in conjunction with the Malawi Sports Council will during the tournament also conduct the umpires development programme.
“ Cosana was preparing to host the advanced courses for umpiring, coaching and administration in March, unfortunately these programmes were to be postponed due to the fact that International Federation of Netball Associations (IFNA) was conducting their administration course at the same time in Johannesburg.”
Kamona said Cosana will introduce an under 23- cup tournament to bridge the gap between under- 21 and senior cup games and to cater for the age-range of 21-23 which have been left out. More funding will be required for the programme to take off.
And IFNA will be hosting a conference from August 31 - September 2 in Singapore, unfortunately due to financial reasons Cosana will not be represented at this meeting.
