Andy Marin is the NIDRR Scholar for the 2002 summer semester with the Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Aging with Developmental Disabilities (RRTC-ADD), Department of Disability and Human Development, University of Illinois at Chicago.
He is working on several research studies within the RRTC, including a health promotion program which includes health education and an exercise program for adults with developmental disabilities. Additionally, Mr. Marin is participating in research projects on later life planning, advocacy, caregiving among minority families, and assistive technology. He is also involved in all phases of the research from conceptualization to data collection, data entry, and data interpretation.
Mr. Marin is entering his senior year at University of Illinois at Chicago as a clinical psychology student. He originally earned a baseball scholarship to play at the University of Illinois at Chicago. His endeavors now, however, include working for the InTouch Crisis Hotline at the University of Illinois at Chicago, along with being involved with the At-Risk Youth Leadership Program. Through the At-Risk Youth Leadership Program, he is a mentor for inner city, at-risk youth using basketball as a guide to teach leadership and coaching skills to the youth. Following graduation, Mr. Marin is planning on obtaining his PhD in clinical psychology.
