  • Also, As of March 1, 2006 the 1/2 k option in the USCF Rating System will no longer be offered. Very few affiliates take advantage of this option so it was viewed as an unnecessary complication.


  • KATRINA ATTACKS – U. S. CHESS RESPONDS!
    (Outreach program to aid USCF members affected by Hurricane Katrina)
    Motion passed by objections procedure by USCF Executive Board:
    The USCF Executive Board passed the following motion by objections procedure:
    Moved, that in order to help chess activity recover in areas severely affected by hurricane Katrina, tournaments held in these areas will be entitled to free TLAs and free rating fees through the end of 2006. Based on a list of impacted zip codes defined by the US Postal Service, these areas are:

    Louisiana 70000-70499
    Mississippi 39300-39699
    Alabama 36500-36699, 36900-36999

    The motion passes Friday, Oct 21 at 1pm if there are no objections.

    SPECIAL USCF PROMOTIONAL MEMBERSHIP

    USCF offers a special promotional adult/regular membership for those who have never been members, or whose membership last expired in 2004 or earlier. This special membership now available by mail or phone as well as on this website, costs $38 ($36 if done online) for one year, $67 ($65 if done online) for two years, or $95 ($93 if done online) for three years. It includes a monthly Chess Life magazine and full membership benefits. These rates represent a significant savings compared to our regular rates of $49 one year, $90 two years, or $130 three years. If you are a current member, please let your friends and those at your chess club know about this opportunity! Remember: If done online you will receive a $2 discount.
