051203-N-9693M-160 Philadelphia, Pa. (Dec. 3, 2005) – U.S. Naval Academy football players carry the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy off the field following a 42-23 victory over the Black Knights of Army. This was the 106th Army vs. Navy Football game, held for the third consecutive year at Lincoln Financial Field. The Mids have now won the past four Army-Navy battles, and now lead the series at 50-49-7. Navy (7-4) has accepted an invitation to play in the Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego on Dec. 22. Navy to Base First Littoral Combat Ship in San Diego
WASHINGTON (NNS) -- The U.S. Navy announced Dec. 2 that USS Freedom (LCS 1), the first littoral combat ship of the LCS 1 class, will be homeported at Naval Station San Diego, Calif.

Freedom is expected to be delivered to the Navy in December 2006 and arrive in San Diego in early 2007.

USS George Washington to Replace USS Kitty Hawk as U.S. Navy’s Forward Deployed Carrier
WASHINGTON (NNS) -- The U.S. Navy announced Dec. 2 that USS George Washington (CVN 73) will replace USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) as the forward-deployed aircraft carrier in the western Pacific and will arrive in Yokosuka, Japan, in 2008. George Washington is currently homeported in Norfolk, Va., and is receiving necessary maintenance and upgrades at Northrop Grumman Newport News Shipbuilding to facilitate this forward deployment. USS Samuel B. Roberts Interdicts 1.5 Metric Ton Cocaine Shipment
ABOARD USS SAMUEL B ROBERS, At Sea (NNS) -- While patrolling in the central Caribbean Sea Dec. 1, USS Samuel B. Roberts (FFG 58), with an embarked U.S. Coast Guard Law Enforcement Detachment (LEDET), intercepted a speedboat suspected of carrying illegal contraband.

The ship sent a Coast Guard MH-68A Sting Ray helicopter to visually identify the suspect vessel. After identifying bales and fuel drums on the vessel, the LEDET was authorized to interdict the vessel.
