AMPS FOR CHRIST
"Beggar's Garden" CD (Shrimper) - After Henry Barnes parted amicably with MAN IS THE BASTARD in 1994, he started recording and building instruments under the name AMPS FOR CHRIST. With homemade guitars, fiddle and oscillators, nothing else sounds like this. 'Folkcore' and 'Musnik' are AFC coinages. 34 tracks. $10.
AMPS FOR CHRIST
"Thony Path" LP (Vermiform) - AFC's 2nd LP, from 1997. Twenty songs that range from traditional ballads to experimental singularities to betartaned huzzahs. Says Barnes: Things that are bitchin' take time. Art by Neil Burke. $8.
see above AMPS FOR CHRIST
"Thorny Path" CD (VMFM 53CD) CD of above. $10
BORN AGAINST
"9 Patriotic Battle Hymns" CD (Kill Rock Stars) - Sam McPheeters and Adam Woodrow formed BORN AGAINST in late 1988, but it took 21/2 years and two wars before they made their first LP. Of the band's many foibles and travails, one lesson endures: Hysteria Sells. CD comes with 20 page booklet and includes 1993's "Battle Hymns" 10", 17 tracks total. Reissued on KRS in 2002. $10.
BORN AGAINST
"The Rebel Sound Of Shit & Failure" CD (Kill Rock Stars) - A posthumous collection of 24 live, rare, compilation, 7" and 8" tracks, with a 16 page booklet of photos, lyrics and liner notes. The wit and bile of this nutty New Jersey hardcore band is appropriate for teen hobos and tenured academics alike. Re-released on KRS in 2002. $14.
BORN AGAINST / UNIVERSAL ORDER OF ARMAGEDDON
split 7" (Gravity) Four songs total from 1993, both bands sharing the Headley / Joy rhythm section. Except for the UOA side, where Tonie played guitar. Graphics could've been better, but you'll have no complaints with the music. $3
BULLET IN THE HEAD
"Jawbone Of An Ass" CD (Vermiform) - Lungcast issued this in '91 and Vermiform repressed in '96. Yes, ok, noise. But not the motionless-men-on-a-stage-with-laptops variety. B.I.T.H. were more about plausible soundscapes, like being taken on a tour through one of the great Cunard ocean liners. You may see some fantastic staterooms and dining halls, but sooner or later you'll have to descend to those boiler rooms. $10
FAST FORWARD
CD (Vermiform) - This first album by Los Angeles enigma FF was also the last record released on Vermiform. This is merely a new wave record in the same way that Jane Fonda was merely a fitness guru. The mournful melody of "Negril" will hit you months after listening, often in public situations where displays of heartache are inappropriate. Cover art by FORCEFIELD's Mat Brinkman. $10.
FRESHOMATICS
7" (Vermiform) - For several months before and after this was released, Vermiform fielded a rash of inquiries, all wondering why the label would traffic in surf. These questions have persisted even into the 21st century, now taking the form of several thousand unsold 7"s. Folks, Vermiform released a surf record because that is what wild, visionary independent labels do. It is as simple as that. Four songs, 1996. Members of (YOUNG) PIONEERS and THE CATHOLIC CHURCH. Liner notes by Neil Burke. $3
HAIL MARY
"Crashing Down" 7" (Vermiform) At two hours from Manhattan, Albany, NY has always had something of a proximity problem, its great bands (BLOTTO, CAPITLE [sic], FIT FOR ABUSE) overshadowed by the world just down I-87. Hardcore band HAIL MARY struggled against this obscurity for half a decade, putting up a valiant fight against unremitting comparisons to BORN AGAINST. Art by Neil Burke. $3.
HAIL MARY
"All Aboard The Sinking Ship" CD (Vermiform) - You've just started your period and you're about to give the most important sales presentation of your life. Only one band is appropriate for this moment. 11 songs in 19 minutes. Art by Sam McP. Future members of LIMP WRIST and GHETTO BLASTER. $10, no more vinyl.
HELIVATOR
"Gasoline T-Shirt" LP (Lungcast) - The inner journey of Neil Burke - begun at MENACE DEMENT and abruptly terminated at MEN'S RECOVERY PROJECT - took a severe turn towards narcotics in the early '90's. On this 1993 album, Burke offers nine tracks of proudly psychedelic rock jams with members of MISSING FOUNDATION. Listen carefully and you can actually smell drugs. $8.
see above CD of above, with bonus track. $10.
HEROIN
S/t LP (Gravity) - As a west coast chapter of a small but significant hardcore revival in the early 1990's, San Diego's HEROIN produced only one full length (originally released as a split with Vermiform). Although time has diluted their direct influence - members went on to ANTIOCH ARROW and CLIKATAT IKATOWI -very little has been done to hose down the viciousness of their actual recordings. $8.
HEROIN
"All About Heroin" 7" (Vinyl Communications). Debut EP, 1991, 6 songs. Their least impressive recording, which is still a bit like saying "Abe Lincoln's shittiest speech". These guys were titans. $3

LANDED
"Everything's Happening" CD (Vermiform) - In a clever bit of camouflage, the best record on Vermiform was also the worst packaged. What appears to be a harmless bit of collegiate alt-rock is actually a vengeful freak attack from members of SIX FINGER SATELLITE, M.R.P., PINK & BROWN and THE COACHWHIPS. When you overhear someone mention 'the Providence sound' at a party, this is the band whose name you should be shrieking as you club that person into unconsciousness with an ashtray. $10.
see above
LANDED
"Everything's Happening" LP (Vermiform) LP of above. $8.
LOUDSPEAKER
"Lucky" 7" (Lungcast) - Neil Burke released this single in 1992 and it's a safe bet that some drugs were smoked in the process. Although formed by members of CRUCIFIX and PUSSY GALORE, LOUDSPEAKER weren't particularly uppity in any direction, opting for a slower form of plod. $3.
THE MAE SHI
"Heartbeeps" CD (5RC). Summer 2005. Ten tracks, cover art by McPheeters. The best live band in Los Angeles. In the upcoming Darby Crash biopic, these guys play THE SCREAMERS. $10
MAN IS THE BASTARD
"Sum Of The Men" LP (Vermiform) - This 1991 album marked the dawn of 'west coast power violence', a fresh hybrid of thrash, prog and noise. With members of PILSBURY HARDCORE and NEANDERTHAL, their debut LP featured the band's most muscular incarnation - Barnes, Connell, Kenyon, Wood - a lineup on speaking terms with both Peace Pipe and War Face. The universe will come and go, but there will never be another M.I.T.B. 8 songs. $8.
see above MAN IS THE BASTARD
"Sum Of The Men" CD (Vermiform). 23 extra tracks and includes cameos by members of INFEST & BORN AGAINST $10
MAN IS THE BASTARD
"Thoughtless" CD (Gravity) - This nine-track session captures M.I.T.B. at the half-decade point; still drilling with dual bass and handmade oscillators, still shrieking like a pack of Australopithecus, still flirting with the narcotic of Pure Noise. $10.
MENACE DEMENT
s/t 7" (Vermiform / Lungcast) - It seems strange to remember that Neil Burke was briefly an adult, but the proof is on this disc. Between Born Against and M.R.P., Menace Dement featured bassist Burke, guitarist Denny Morrison of NY's DAMAGE, the late Patrick Blank of NY's VIRUS, and vocalist Cassandra Stark of Richard Kern film fame. 2 songs, Sullen Rock. $3.
MENACE DEMENT
s/t LP (Vermiform) No collection of Neil Burkenalia would be complete without this moody album of early 90's rock-band-with-mad-lady-singing. 7 songs, art by Burke, pics by grunge photographer Michael Levine, who remains unpaid for this particular job. Vinyl only. $8.
MEN'S RECOVERY PROJECT
"The Best Of Men's Recovery Project" CD (5RC) Atumn 2005. This CD has 40 tracks, including unreleased songs, songs so obscure they may as well have been unreleased, and all the good bits from 2001's "Night Pirate". With cameos by members of LE TIGRE, THE LOCUST, SIX FINGER SATELLITE, and THRONES, among others, and a handsome 16 page photo booklet. I started this bullshit shit / And this the motherfuckin thanks I get? $14.
MEN'S RECOVERY PROJECT
"Frank Talk About Humans" CD (Vinyl Communications) - 1994. An album like this - simultaneously one of the best and worst things ever recorded, ever - comes along once every thousand years. 45 tracks of the wrong stuff. Cameos by members of TOWEL, THE DEAD KENNEDYS and Neil Burke's family. $10
MEN'S RECOVERY PROJECT
"Normal Man" 7" (Gravity) 1994.Ex-BORN AGAINSTers Sam McP and Neil Burke are joined by ex-BORN AGAINSTers Adam W. and Brooks H. for this all-thrash EP. If embarrassing exchanges at the supermarket were mid 90's hardcore bands, this would be their record, Bill. $3.
MEN'S RECOVERY PROJECT
"Botanica Mysteria" (Kill Rock Stars) 1995, 11 tracks. There is a strange groping quality to this E.P. that never quite hits the mark, eerily reminiscent of the night guitarist N. Burke drunkenly tried and failed to moon a Baltimore audience. Isn't there some small part of us all that feels this way, fumbling impotently with our belts on the vast stage of life? $3.
MEN'S RECOVERY PROJECT / SINKING BODY
"Grappling With The Homonids" [sic] split LP (Vermiform). Fall in love all over again with the band that invented, popularized, cheapened and destroyed its own musical genre. Sam & Neil are joined by Tommy Fuckmouth (RAH BRAS) and Max Henkel (IN SEARCH OF OBSESSION) on such nano-classics as "Naked Sailor" and "I'm A Naked Sailor". Flip this record over and it's SINKING BODY, Neil Burke's electronic troubadour act. 27 tracks, with cameos by members of THRONES, TIT WRENCH and 6 FINGER SATELLITE. $8
see above MEN'S RECOVERY PROJECT / SINKING BODY
"Grappling With The Homonids" (Vermiform) CD of above. $10.
MEN'S RECOVERY PROJECT
"Resist The New Way" CD (Vermiform) This 1999 album - Part One in a theme trilogy that includes 2000's "Bolides Over Basra" and 2001's "Night Pirate" - saw the band in peak fighting form. Joe Preston (THRONES, HIGH ON FIRE) sings and plays banjo on this recording, an artistic watershed of the Bullshit Age. $10.
MEN'S RECOVERY PROJECT
"Bolides Over Basra" CD (Load) - MRP travels to Tunisia, Morocco, Sudan and the Rub al Khali on their second theme album. With help from J. & Rick from SIX FINGER SATELLITE and CHINESE STARS. When the 7th Armored Brigade took Basra on April 6th, 2003, this was the album blaring from their Humvees. $10.
MOIST HOST
CD (Butter Flavored Records) - March 2005, 9 songs. Imagine that there is this great band from South Dakota who conjure MAN IS THE BASTARD live, and that they have released a CD and that Sam McPheeters did the cover art. Now further imagine that you are Paypaling $10 for this CD. $10.
MOSS ICON
"Lyburnum" CD (Vermiform) - Maryland's MOSS ICON are on their best behavior with this 1993 album, forsaking their elegiac hippie meltdowns for elegiac hardcore meltdowns. Although guitarist Tonie Joy went on BORN AGAINST, UNIVERSAL ORDER OF ARMAGEDDON, LAVA, THE GREAT UNRAVELING and THE CONVOCATION OF, it is this band's legacy that has continued to dog him well into adulthood, like a drunk driving arrest. $10.
PLEASUREHORSE
"Small Purse" CD (Vermiform) This 1998 CD caps the label's infatuation w/ noise, which was subsequently followed by the label's fiscal destruction. Are the two related? Buy this CD and find out. Shawn from LANDED and SIX FINGER SATELLITE stars, hand screened foldout cover, minus jewelcase. $10
RAH BRAS
"Wear The Beat Spectacular" CD (Vermiform) An ancient Chickahominy Indian curse handicaps all bands from Richmond, Virginia. That the Rah Bras are confident, sexy, ex-MEN'S RECOVERY PROJECT, and have been voted Best Live Act of both the 20th and 21st centuries means very little to the vengeful warrior spirits that blight their way. The band recently had all their equipment stolen after a show in Brooklyn; your not buying this CD is kind of like another violation still. 8 songs, with bonus MPEG movie. $10.
RAH BRAS
"Nipponoppin" 7" (Lungcast). Rah Bras take it to Japan and do what they do best; completely alienate their audience with inappropriate displays of sexuality. 3 song picture disc, live from the far east. Sam McP does art. Hand numbered.  $4.
RAH BRAS
"Whohm" CD (Lovitt). Autumn 2005. This band is the Bethany Hamilton of the mid-00's erotic weirdo music scene: Brooklyn bit their arm off, but they shall continue to surf. Ten songs. $10.
RORSCHACH
"Autopsy" CD (Gern Blandsten) - What can be said of this band? That their first two releases appeared on Vermiform? That they toured the entire country with BORN AGAINST? That they took the most pedestrian of genres - Jersey metalcore - and kind of did something beautiful with it? All 31 songs, $14.
SINKING BODY
"The Discovery Of Iron Ore" 10" (Vermiform) - From the same Neil Burke who brought you Bladder Pad, THE DISGUSTINGS, MEN'S RECOVERY PROJECT, MAN'S RECOVERY PROJECT, Lungcast Records, JOYRIDE, Monoroid.com, CHILDCRAFT, DANSE ASSHOLE, MUTANT LIFE EXPECTANCY and "Big Nose Goes To Africa" comes this one man Man Band. 1995. Six electronic instrumentals. Hand screened covers. $8.
SINKING BODY
"Neurotic Habits Of The Invisible Man" 7" (Vermiform) - More digital boners from this 17th century Dutch master. Has there ever been a better time to refinance your existing mortgage? $3
SODDAMN INSSEIN
"War. On Drugs." LP (PPM) Tara from AMPS FOR CHRIST, Jessica from WEIRD WAR and three blokes from HERR K deliver the greatest ironic pro-Bush hardcore record of all time. 2004. Art by Sam McP. Hand screened. Warning: satire. $8.
SPACEHORSE
CD (Gravity) - Summer 2005. Nine tracks of San Diegoey nardcorey heavycore thrash. If you enjoyed Matt and Scott's previous bands (HEROIN, CLIKATAT IKATOWI, MANNIKEN PIS), you most certainly will enjoy this CD. From beyond the grave, Vermiform salutes its still thriving and relevant cousin label. $10.
MARK TELFIAN / MARK McCOY
Split 7" (Gloom) - Two Marks from HAIL MARY, DAS OATH and LIMP WRIST share spoken word obligations on this 2005 release. Side one is in Czech. Side two is a brief bit of poetry slam hammery. This is the paradox of all human creativity in a nutshell; you can't have your Michelangelos and Kubricks without a few Mark Telfians and Mark McCoys popping up from time to time. $4.
THRONES
"A Day Late, A Dollar Short" CD (Southern Lord) - Summer 2005. Finally the pampered packaging deserved of Big Joe Preston (M.R.P., HIGH ON FIRE). 19 rarities, 7" and comp tracks, often conveying the beards and isolation of the first arctic and lunar expeditions. Includes "Coal Sack", the greatest CRO-MAGS song never written. This CD is a treat. $14.
TIT WRENCH
"Ok You Homos, Out Of The Car" 7" (Vinyl Communications) - 1994: Sam McPheeters "sings" on four techo-metal songs, ranging in cheese from brie to edam. Bob VC gets drunk and mistakenly releases it. Since one track features Neil Burke, this record can boast the very first MEN'S RECOVERY PROJECT song. So there's that. $3
see above TIT WRENCH
"OK you Homos..." CD (VC) Disc includes 7" plus another 95 tracks of remixes, ads, and utter flim-flam. Perfect listening if, say, you happen to be driving solo from Providence, RI to Easthampton, MA on the night of August 11, 2005. Just try to not feel like too much of an asshole when you carefully squeeze your Hawaiian-shirted bulk back into your rental Hyundai without spilling your coffee or mussing your donut, turning on the car stereo to hear yourself singing "sausage people rule". What happened to you? $8.
TOWEL
s/t 7" (Vermiform) - This SF 2-piece was kind of like the Adlai Stevenson of the mid-to-late-90's Grubby Music scene; a good idea that never caught on. Too filthy for hardcore buffs, too freaked-out for stoner rock enthusiasts, TOWEL labored in obscurity for four years. That vocalist John briefly played in MEN'S RECOVERY PROJECT and went to grade school with Neil Burke probably didn't help them in the polls, either. $3.
TOWEL
s/t 8" (Vermiform) Four of their best tracks appear on this overlarge E.P. Messily heavy, grippingly spooky, TOWEL were indeed the Galveston Hurricane of two-woman guitar and drum Fuck Attack. Except that one was a man. Crisp hand screened covers. $3
TOWEL
"Anthology" CD (Vermiform) - All of Towel's songs are included on this disc, all 1,027 copies of which were badly hand-screened by Neil Burke in one drunken overnight session. This skimpy, shitty digipack is a fitting headstone for such a great and misunderstood band; if their own record label couldn't muster even the minimum of respectful packaging, how could TOWEL have expected anyone else to respect them? $10
UNIVERSAL ORDER OF ARMAGEDDON
"Discography" CD (Kill Rock Stars) 15 song collection of most U.O.A. songs. Ex-MOSS ICON and BORN AGAINST, pre-CONVOCATION OF and WRANGLER BRUTES. $14
V/A
"Dynamite With A Laser Beam" LP (31G)
BASTARD NOISE, FAST FORWARD, SINKING BODY and 13 others venerealate the memory of QUEEN and use Freddie Mercury's grave for an open-air toilet on this shameful covers compilation. $8

"False Object Sensor" CD (Vermiform). Vermiform's 11.5 year anniversary copilation. Features AMPS FOR CHRIST w/ THRONES, MRP w/ LE TIGRE, THE CONVOCATION OF, FAST FORWARD, RAH BRAS, 6 FINGER SATELLITE, previously unreleased songs by BORN AGAINST, HEROIN and MOSS ICON and much more. Liner notes by Sammy McP. $10.

"Fear Of Smell" LP (Vermiform) - Being a 1992 compilation featuring NATION OF ULYSSES, TIT WRENCH, RORSCHACH, MAN IS THE BASTARD, SUGARSHOCK, NATIVE NOD, INFEST, 1.6 BAND, MEREL, MOSS ICON, HELL NO and spoken word by members of BORN AGAINST, THE MANACLED and CITIZENS ARREST. $8

"Fruited Other Surfaces" CD (Vermiform) - All noise compilation from 1998 featuring AMPS FOR CHRIST, BASTARD NOISE, DROP DEAD, MEN'S RECOVERY PROJECT, REPLIKANTS & 24 more. This was the only release on Vermiform to emerge exactly as conceived, so the CD plant decided to slap a garish UPC stickers on the tray card as punishment. Aren't you glad you no longer have to worry about things like this, Sam? $10
V / A
"Gravity Video Soundtrack 2" CD - music & misc from THE LOCUST, THE RAPTURE, MEN'S RECOVERY PROJECT, THE BLACK HEART PROCESSION, SEA OF TOMBS and TRISTEZA. See below for video. $10
WITCHY POO
"Witchy Poo Salutes The Space Program" 7" (Vermiform). Helmeted members of THRONES, BANGS, and SODDAMN INSSEIN offer this 6 song indictment of Vermiform Records. Weirdo music in the grandest tradition of the pre-9/11 days. $3.
WITCHY POO
"Pitching Woo" CD (Vermiform) Hailing from Olympia, WA, WITCHY POO served for ten years as the west coast counterparts to MEN'S RECOVERY PROJECT; brash, bawdy, uncompromisingly unreasonable. As with most east-west rap rivalries, this relationship was bound to end in tears. 16 songs, screened art by Neil Burke. $10.
WORST CASE SCENARIO
s/t LP (Vermiform) In 1994, members of UNWOUND and YOUNG GINNS formed this brief but beloved Olympia hardcore band. Over its eighteen months of existence, W.C.S. shared many uncanny similarities with WRANGLER BRUTES, eight years in the future. Both mined the same artistic eras, both fought chronic aspersions to their motives, both self destructed years before their time. $8.
see above WORST CASE SCENARIO
s/t CD (Vermiform) - CD of above. Includes EPs on Troubleman, Lookout & Bumpidee -- everything they ever did. $10.
WRANGLER BRUTES
Tape (Wrangler Brutes Records) - Sam McP joins guys from SKULL KONTROL and NAZTI SKINZ on this 16-song 2003 debut. The wigs and brevity of this crazy California hardcore band are appropriate for Korean skinheads and hairy Earth Women alike. $8.
WRANGLER BRUTES
"Zulu" CD (Kill Rock Stars) - 2004 climax of this doomed and misunderstood band. Produced by Steve Albini, backing vocals by members of MIDGET HANDJOB and LUNCHMEAT. 18 songs, $14.
WRANGLER BRUTES
"The Tape" LP (X-Mist) Travel back in time to 2003 with this clever LP repackaging of the WrBr debut cassette on vinyl format. 16 songs repeated on sides A & B + all new artwork by guitarist Andy = a brand new 23 song album for '05. Except you've already heard all the songs before. One has to squeeze a lot of dead cow titty before they hit dust. $8
YOUNG PIONEERS
"First Virginia Volunteers" CD (Vermiform) - The 1995 Richmond Sound, delivered by two Yankee ex-pats (Adam & Brooks from BORN AGAINST) and one bona fide southerner (Tim from AVAIL). 17 songs narrating a series of stalled lives, with all the public assistance and ambling dog walks that implies. $10.
YOUNG PIONEERS
"We March" 7" (Vermiform) - 1996, 4 songs with Marty (THE CATHOLIC CHURCH) on bass. The wheaty, untreated lumber style earnestness in these songs would follow the band throughout their career. $3.
see above YOUNG PIONEERS
"We March" CD-ep (Vermiform) - CD includes first (acoustic) EP, with Neil of MEN'S RECOVERY PROJECT on harmonica. $3
(YOUNG) PIONEERS
"Crime Wave" CD (Vermiform) - By 1997, (Y)P had entered their Parenthesis Period and were appearing atop piles of rubble on their record covers. Insert by cartoonist Brian Walsby, CD includes songs from their EP on Whirled and 3 live songs. $10.
