Day 15: One Day left for the Closing Ceremony

In the 15th day of the Olympic Games, 6 sport competitions came to an end: Basketball, Canoe / Kayak Flatwater Racing, Cycling Mountain Bike, Diving, Football and Sailing.

Athletics: In Women's High Jump, Russia's Yelena SLESARENKO won gold with a new Olympic record (2.06), while in Men's Javelin Throw Norway's Andreas THORKILDSEN won easily with an 86.50 throw. Kelly HOLMES (GBR) won gold in Women's 1500m, as Hicham EL GUERROUJ from Morocco did in Men's 5000m. Great Britain finished first in the Men 4 x 100m Relay, leaving the USA second and Nigeria third. In the Women's 4 x 400m Relay, USA took gold, Russia silver and Jamaica bronze. In the Men's event, USA was again first. Australia came second and Nigeria third.

Men's Football: Argentina is new Olympic champion, having beaten Paraguay 1-0 in the final.
Women’s Basketball: The United States won their third consecutive gold medal.

Canoe / Kayak Flatwater Racing: German Andreas DITTMER, world champion, is the gold medallist in Men’s C1 500m. In Men's C2 500m China's team finished first. Katalin KOVACS and Natasa JANICS (HUN) won gold medal in the Women's K2 500m. KOVACS earlier had won the Women’s K1 500m event. Ronald RAUHE and Tim WIESKOETTER (GER) improved on their bronze medal at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games by winning gold in the Men's K2 500m and Adam van KOEVERDEN (CAN) won gold in an exciting race of the Men’s K1 500m.

Gymnastics Rhythmic: In Group All-Around, Russia, defending Olympic champions, won gold medal. Italy was second and Bulgaria ranked third.
Sailing: In Women’s Tornado Austria was the winner, leaving USA second and Argentina third, while in Men’s Star Brazil came first, Canada second and France third.

Boxing: Cuba's Yuriorkis GAMBOA TOLEDANO won gold in Fly Weight (51kg) category, Manus BOONJUMNONG (Thailand) in the Light Welter Weight (64kg) and Alexei TICHTCHENKO (RUS) in the Feather Weight (57kg). Sydney silver medallist, Gaydarbek GAYDARBEKOV (RUS), upset world champion Gennady GOLOVKIN (KAZ) in the final of the Middle Weight (75kg) category. Finally, in Heavy Weight (91kg) Cuba’s Odlanier SOLIS FONTE won gold.

Cycling Mountain Bike: Julien ABSALON won France's first gold in Cycling, in the Men’s Cross Country event.
Diving: China’s Jia HU was first in Men’s 10m Platform.

Taekwondo: Steven LOPEZ (USA) won Bahri TANRIKULU (TUR) to retain his title as Olympic champion in the Men’s Under 80kg category, while in Women's Under 67kg final LUO Wei (CHN) defeated Elisavet MYSTAKIDOU (GRE).
 
Women’s Volleyball : China won Russia in the final and the Tournament’s gold medal.

Wrestling: In Men's Freestyle, Stephen Abas (USA, 55kg), Jamill KELLY (USA, 66kg), Eui Jae MOON (KOR, 84kg) and Alireza REZAEI (IRI, 120kg) won the day’s gold medals.
