 Interactive Education Business
Sega Toys established what it calls "edutainment business" with PICO system. The concept of PICO is "children can learn while they play". PICO business has been only the product in this arena having hardware (system) and software (book). It has been well accepted in the market and also supported by educational institutions, content holders and book publishers.

Lately the life style in general, as well as environment and society surroundings children, changed dramatically. Sega Toys challenged to further promote "learn while play" concept and developed "Advanced PICO Beena" as a next generation system. For this new system, Sega Toys identified 5 areas of educating/training children; "intellectual education", "moral education", "physical education", "food education ", and "safety training". Covering the basic areas of training at home, the Beena system help enhance learning potential that every child has. Sega Toys formed new alliance with educational experts, other toy manufacturers and corporations in various industries in order to further support its edutainment business.

As the high-end model of our PICO series, we introduced a new educational concept to meet changes in the social environment. By newly incorporating into BeenaTM the five major types of education - intellectual, moral, physical, dietary and safety - this product successfully covers all the educational areas demanded by parents. It also helps children extend their learning possibilities at each stage of their development.

The PICO console connects to a television, allowing children to naturally absorb important skills for their development while they play, without even being conscious of the learning aspect. These skills include such areas as reading, arithmetic, values education and social training. In 2003 this product reached the 10th anniversary since its launch. As of April 2005, we had sold 3.4 million PICO consoles and 11.2 million software cartridges, including 300 different software titles, reinforcing its status as a true long-seller in the educational toy market.

We have forged alliances with such companies as ECC Junior and Benesse Corporation, and within one year of the product's release, sales have already topped 200,000 units. As a general learning tool, we intend to develop further new markets for this product.
