Report No. 854868

My home Streamyx has been down since 11.00am today. Still down. Was told outage affects Puchong and parts of USJ with ADSL line starting with 03-80xx-xxxx.

I am now on Jaring dial-up, 48kbps. Don't think I can do anything meaningful on the Net tonight.

CIC at 1300-88-9515 (Deva) has been prompt, though.

Mine has been down as well. Came back right up at about 4 pm.

for some reason, my streamyx doesn't work from about 5pm till 7pm almost daily. call them and they tell there is no outage. yesterday, one told me they will send a technician within 24 to 48 workings HOURS!!! assuming they work 8 hours a day, then it would 3 to 6 days before i get them.

another thing i don't understand is why they took more than 2 weeks to upgrade the line.

also, why does it take so many days to bill the credit card and clear the bill???

Posted by: Closet Hero at December 4, 2003 09:37 PM

I am still waiting for installation of streamyx line at home. It has been almost one month since getting their letter of confirmation. Why they need such a long time?

The current broadband penetration is less than 1% in Malaysia. If this is the way they work, how long will they need to acheive the level of South Korea? or Singapore?

Based on current exchange rate, our 512kps price of RM88 per month is twice more expensive than the Singapore's SGD20 (RM44) per month.

Based on purchasing power, our price is 4 times more expansive (assume that when singaporean earn SGD1,000, our people with the same skill earn RM1,000)

No eye see!!

I have waited patiently from September till today on my streamyx application, and despite Marketing guys trying to help, which they really could not, nothing seems to come forward, despite explanations by marketing people in Telekom.

They can never commit nor promise on the supply. Demand is always high. Supply and demand does not co-relate and it does not seem to apply to Telekom business strategy at all.

Posted by: bill at December 5, 2003 12:05 AM

...and Stephen/Telekom wanted me to wait till end of 1st Quarter 2004.

By the rate Telekom meets the demand, ADSL will be phased out of business and new technology will arrive on our doorstep.

Hei guys,

I can't hear any 'Cinta IT' song anymore lately. Is there a shift to other technology, tired of IT? I think someone needs to start something like 'Cinta NanoTech' or Cinta 'TimeTravel' for the new PM. 'Hangat hangat tahi ayam, akhirnya makan tahi ayam'. Ohhhh...sedapnya. Wonder who is that?

Telekom's marketing ppl are actually quite helpful. It is usually the technician's fault..well at least here in Sabah. I had to keep calling the technician for a few weeks before he finally came.

He actually admitted to me that in order to get the Streamyx connection set up, the consumer has to keep pestering the technicians until they finally get fed up and do something. If you don't pester them, they will just prioritise the customers that do. The technicians are from private company hired by Telekom to my knowledge.

Wil, you are absolutely correct. I had some hard time earlier this year when my Streamyx was down for two weeks. Luckily I kept my Jaring.
This is the only country in the world where you have to pester the businessman to give him business. It is a case of incompetent people given a business monopoly, the country be damned.

"Patience young JEDIs...to give in to anger is to give in to the DarK FOrce...." __Master YoDa the WiSe

FYI, the only "outsourced" contractors Telekoms uses are those who bring you your adsl modems to be installed in your home (but not always true because, they also have in-house technicians to service certain areas & clientele e.g. PrimaTel customers; their business clients are given higher priority...ADSL within ONE WEEK...)

As for the CO(Central Office); their CNO team usually handles it in-house....(where the DSLAMs are located....)

I "think" the problem lies with "lack of manpower" on the CNO site....(i will check with my sources....)

Posted by: Malaysian at December 5, 2003 05:36 AM

I admit their marketing guys are cool and very polite, but i m also skeptical that technicians are only handling installation. The preparation work and planning schedule are all handled not by marketing? They keep saying "cannot promise you the schedule but it could be end of the year [then was September], and now end of year is near, they say 1st Quarter 2004 [meaning March, not Jan].

My previous office location waited 2 years and streamyx never arrived. It was in the busy business area of city.

The TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT syndrome is bad. We need another ISP competitor to get things moving in improved direction.

I registered for Streamyx online and got a call from the contractor the very next day. What a pleasant surprise, I thought.
The contractor turned up, tried to do his work, complained that my computer wasn't a clone and declared that there was something wrong with my pc.
From the number of complaints even before the job was done, I knew I won't be getting the broadband service just yet.
He claimed that my pc had a problem with the LAN card (also known as the network card). There wasn't one in it as I had an internal adsl modem which he couldn't figure out anyway.
He tried fixing a LAN card he brought with him and wanted to charge me RM70 for it. The LAN card didn't work.
He look at his watch and declared that he has other customers to attend to. No point holding him as I knew I could do a better job myself.
I took my pc to a computer shop the next day and got a LAN card fixed for RM30.
I trashed the two connection set-ups the contractor installed and started from square one.
I still couldn't get a signal, so I called up TM Net. I was given a 1-800 number to call as my connection wasn't activated. Guess what no one picked up the phone and I gave up after 30 minutes of trying.
I called TM Net again and this time I was two fixed line numbers to call. I wasn't suppose to call the 1-800 number, I was told.
I got through to the mail box but it was full so I couldn't leave a message. The other number was impossibl;e to get through.
So I called TM Net again, this time I was given another time. When I got through on my first attempt I thought the run around was over.
Guess what, it was someone's residence. The woman who picked up the phone said she has been getting a lot of miscalls.
She even has the right number for me. It was the TM net office at Putra jaya.
For the first time that day the officer who picked up the phone knew what he was talking about.
He told me that the contractor should have brought a lap top to test the connection.
He said it was the contractor's duty to activate my account. He contacted the contractor and within five minutes, the genius who tried to fix my Streamyx called me to set up another appointment.
This time he came with a lap top. From his body language I could tell what he wanted to. Hook up his lap top to my ADSL modem and show me that everything was OK. So the only problem was my pc.
Guess what. He couldn't get connected. He insisted that he has activated my account though.
After an hour of calling several places, including his boss. he got it fixed. Now that he can't blame mu pc, he claimed that there was something wrong with the ports at TM Net and blamed the people there for not activating my account.
Of course we can guess where the fault lies. I wonder how TM Net can give out contracts to unqualified and bungling fools.

Posted by: ed at December 5, 2003 12:47 PM

Very unqualified and bungling fools. I would give my version of the story but it is too long winded and I've forgotten most of it anyway. I do know that I let two technicians "attempt" to get the setup correct on my pc for more than half an hour until I asked them if I could have a go.

Five minutes later they were already out of my house. Job done...no thanks to them. ;p How embarassing.

Broadband is available to areas that has cable lines. However areas that has fibre optics the applicants has to wait until there is a demand.
Now which has to be first?
I shifted to my current area after checking the status online which clearly says that number 03 920061xx has service. However after shifting and upon submitting my applications I was told this is fibre optic area and no service.
Well what can we do guys? This just another frustrations which we have to live with.
Never mind Siti Norhaliza is there to sing her songs.
Long Live Telekoms.

Normally, when you apply streamyx, Telekom technicians check the phone line, if it is ok, your application is approved and TMNET will print out your account details to you. I was not given this printout for my home package.

So 2 technicians with a laptop came along a few days later. They could not activiate the account. Anyway, I got the password from them as I was not given the printout details.

I tested it on my new Dell laptop arriving a few days earlier. It got through.

For the 2 technicians' of doing nothing, I paid RM125 for installation cost. Anyway, I am not complaining about the $$ as I got streamyx.

For my office area with fibre optic, that is a long story and I have been chasing TMNET/TELEKOM since ADSL was announced.

So far marketing ppl have been helpful to me. I do admit some Telekom staff go all out to help. For that kind of service, treat to a drink will be good for them, showing appreciation.

We really need a feedback and evaluation forms from customers on each workers in Telekom and these evaluations should reach top management to decide on promotion, salary adjustments or downgrade demotion in the organisation.

Hi, I am trying to register with Streamyx via Internet, but since I am a foreigner with a permanent social visit pass, the registration does not work, only for Malaysian's ID. Have sent this message repeatedly via the Streamyx website, but no reply. Is Streamyx not interested in foreigners??? Just tell us straight. Can anybody help out there? Thank you. Anita

Posted by: anita at December 7, 2003 12:51 PM

Anita - Call 1-300-88-9515 to see if your "line" supports ADSL...

It's not only foreigners they are not "interested" in, most of the times we "locals" too have to wait patiently in line..

The next best alternative is to do it the "traditional" way....queue up at the nearest Kedai Telekom...or sign up with the many Resellers that is listed on their website(caveat emptor).

Hope to welcome you to the broadband fraternity...
