It was a CFL double header on Sunday. After a disappointing showing by Saskatchewan this weekend, showing maybe a bit of an overstatement, well at least they showed up they just didn't show up to play...can you spell choke..Roughriders.....the Edmonton Eskimos defeated the Edmonton Stampeders in Calgary. What a turn around once the star struck coach Danny Maciocia finally realized that his cheque book star Ricky Ray choked in the playoffs....At the third quarter in came Jason Maas, and the game turned around, with what counts, touchdowns. And it came with real on field mutual aid, its called leadership and Maas rallied his 'team', and they won. Sure Maas shone, but so did the rest of the team as Maas said himself. Nothing was heard from Ray who was sulking. He is NOT a team player, and to win the Grey Cup there is no "I", its all team work.
So if the Eskimos want to win they have to use their best weapons, and Ray ain't one of them. Maas hadn't played all season until Sunday's game. And until he was put in the only points were made by veteran kicker and team player Sean Fleming, and they were alot six field goals worth. But while football games are won or lost on a final field goal, games are not won by field goals alone, which is all the overpriced Ray could muster in two games against Calgary.
To beat B.C. it will take Maas and the Eskimos. And Ray can be left to warm the bench.

Stampeders left crying no Maas But it apparently wasn't enough to convince Edmonton coach Danny Maciocia that Maas has earned the starter's job for next Sunday's West final in Vancouver against the B.C. Lions. "They're two great quarterbacks, great individuals and we can win with either one," said Maciocia. "This football team has the utmost respect for both those guys. I don't know if I'll ever coach another team player like Jason Maas -- he's not said a word. That's why we haven't had a quarterback controversy all year. Danny, Danny, give your head a shake, admit it you paid too much for a wet behind the ears kid who choked in the clincher.........and before..... Ray, the CFL's highest-paid player, struggled in yesterday's contest and has not thrown a touchdown in the last six games.Maas celebrates win by going hunting Maas was relegated to backup status in the off-season when Ray returned to Edmonton after a year with the NFL's New York Jets. However, the six-foot-two, 210-pound Maas has been a consummate professional, never publicly complaining about his situation and always politely handling media questions regarding his status. And boy we would have heard about it from Golden Boy Ray if he was benched........and Danny continues his losing strategy by having Ray start against B.C. Incumbent Ricky Ray is expected to start, with Maas returning the sidelines despite replacing Ray in the second half and rallying the Eskimos from a 23-12 deficit. Maas completed 15 of 18 passes for 144 yards, including a 25-yard TD strike to Jason Tucker late in the fourth that vaulted Edmonton ahead for good.
The coach will learn after one quarter what a mistake that will be.....

With 'fun' behind him, Milton ponders future So Air Canada CEO Robert Milton thinks cutting wages, jobs, and benefits, as well as driving Air Canada into bankruptcy, is fun, sheesh I would hate to think what he calls hilarious. What would be hilarious would be if he got fired for bankrupting the company in the first place. But nah that ain't gonna happen to fun living Milton.

Trust in government hits new low: pollWhile many respondents said they distrusted politicians, 78 per cent said they had high opinions of workers at non-government organizations and believed they had high ethical standards. Seventy-five per cent said the same about doctors while only 25 per cent thought business executives had high ethical standards and only 21 per cent thought the same of politicians. Please note while the media is all a bluster about the increase in Canadians distrust of politicians, take a look who runs a close second behind them....businesss men....yep Canadians know ya gotta to stick it to the man cause he sticks it to you.

Alberta Premier Klein backs ASC chief Rice over 'oversight' trade Mr. Klein disagreed when questioned about an erosion of credibility at the ASC. "No, there is not an ethical dilemma here.
Cronyism, insider trading, fradulent consulting firms getting health care contract, Former Energy Minister turned Trade Ambasador to the US sitting on an oil corporation board, golden parachute for former minister turned Executive Assistant to Premier after he is fired, hiring old pal Rod Love as replacement, and he retires with golden parachute to return to his consultancy and government lobbying business, fire sale land deal to real estate pals in Fort McMurray, BSE funding going to Tysons, Enron scams Alberta Electrical providers but the government fails to sue them, the litany goes on and on...nope no ethical dilemma here in the Ralph Reich. Just business as usual for the corrupt cronyistic world of the Party of Calgary.

AG Report Shows Symptoms of Long Term Tory Mismanagement

See what I mean......And you know its bad when the NDP quote Harper against Klein......

On ethics, everyone gets it but Ralph Klein - NDP
Harper's reforms, on the heels of Layton's proposals, all needed in Alberta

CCalgary - NDP Opposition MLA Ray Martin said today that when it comes to ethics and cleaning up government, Premier Ralph Klein could learn a thing or two from federal Conservative Leader Stephen Harper. “When it comes to ethics, only Paul Martin and Ralph Klein don’t seem to get it,” says the NDP MLA.

“While not perfect, the Harper ethics and accountability package would go a long way to cleaning up government in Alberta,” said Martin.

Martin noted that in all areas involving ethics, federal rules are already more stringent than those in Alberta. “Federally, corporate and union donations are already severely restricted, and Stephen Harper wants to eliminate them entirely. In Alberta, the provincial Tories rely on corporations for 80 per cent of their contributions. And the provincial $15,000 contribution limit is a joke because subsidiaries of the same corporation can give more than once so long as they’re separately incorporated,” he said.

“Harper wants to further tighten up rules for the existing federal lobbyists’ registry, while Klein has consistently opposed the very idea of having one in this province. Harper is proposing a five-year lobbying prohibition for Ministers and senior public officials. In Alberta, it’s only six months and that’s only for Ministers,” Martin added.

“Harper wants to clean up federal government contracting. In this province, we have ministers giving untendered contracts to their former executive assistants, and other ministers awarding contracts to design a private insurance scheme to companies like Aon Corporation that can then use this insider knowledge to bid on the scheme down the road,” remarked Martin.

“The Auditor General occasionally provides glimpses into Tory government wrongdoing, the most recent example being sweetheart financing deals and land giveaways in Fort McMurray. However, since Ralph Klein hasn’t called a public inquiry since becoming Premier, the true extent of wrongdoing never comes to light,” Martin concluded.

.PM won't agree to winter vote 'They can play their political games. I'm not going to' Except that he and the Liberal gang are playing games, they are sending Finance Minister Goodale out on Monday with a whole bag of new funding and pre election promises thinly disguised as the winter budget estimates.Campaign-style promises a fiscal update on Monday in which the Liberals are expected to detail their pre-election platform. It's believed Finance Minister Ralph Goodale will announce a projection of a whopping surplus between $10 billion and $12 billion. In a campaign-style speech delivered in front of devoted Liberals in Toronto Thursday evening, Martin also promised to keep cutting taxes and to keep putting "more money into the pockets of Canadians." The prime minister's statement adds weight to reports that Goodale will pledge corporate tax cuts and income tax reductions for middle-income Canadians on Monday. Facing a snap election, the Liberals have substantially beefed up their mid-year update due to the fact they may not get a chance to introduce a full-scale budget. They're avoiding calling the update a mini-budget because of the procedural and legislative obligations they would be forced to follow under such a formal plan. So whose playing games now?

In the history of a city we find the social history of the role that warfare plays in the transition between fuedalism and the rise of Imperialism, Capitalism, and its modern state... Konigsberg - Kaliningrad in the Context of European History On several occasions Konigsberg found itself in the epicenter of major European conflicts: the Seven-Year War (1756-1763), the Napoleonic wars (1805-1807 and 1812-1814), the First World War (1914-1918) and the Second World War (1939-1945). If as Clauzwitz says War is Diplomancy/Politics by other means then Capitalism is War by Economic Means
Johnny Got His Gun
He was the future he was a perfect picture of the future and they were afraid to let anyone see what the future was like. Already they were looking ahead they were figuring the future and somewhere in the future they saw war. To fight that war they would need men and if men saw the future they wouldn't fight. So they were masking the future they were keeping the future a soft quiet deadly secret. They knew that if all the little people all the little guys saw the future they would begin to ask questions. They would ask questions and they would find answers and they would say to the guys who wanted them to fight they would say you lying thieving sons-of-bitches we won't fight we won't be dead we will live we are the world we are the future and we will not let you butcher us no matter what you say no matter what speeches you make no matter what slogans you write. Remember it well we we we are the world we are what makes it go round we make bread and cloth and guns we are the hub of the wheel and the spokes and the wheel itself without us you would be hungry naked worms and we will not die. We are immortal we are the sources of life we are the lowly despicable ugly people we are the great wonderful beautiful people of the world and we are sick of it we are utterly weary we are done with it forever and ever because we are the living and we will not be destroyed.
If you make a war if there are guns to be aimed if there are bullets to be fired if there are men to be killed they will not be us. They will not be us the guys who grow wheat and turn it into food the guys who make clothes and paper and houses and tiles the guys who build dams and power plants and string the long moaning high tension wires the guys who crack crude oil down into a dozen different parts who make light globes and sewing machines and shovels and automobiles and airplanes and tanks and guns oh no it will not be us who die. It will be you.
It will be you-you who urge us on to battle you who incite us against ourselves you who would have one cobbler kill another cobbler you who would have one man who works kill another man who works you who would have one human being who wants only to live kill another human being who wants only to live. Remember this. Remember this well you people who plan for war. Remember this you patriots you fierce ones you spawners of hate you inventors of slogans. Remember this as you have never remembered anything else in your lives.
We are men of peace we are men who work and we want no quarrel. But if you destroy our peace if you take away our work if you try to range us one against the other we will know what to do. If you tell us to make the world safe for democracy we will take you seriously and by god and by Christ we will make it so. We will use the guns you force upon us we will use them to defend our very lives and the menace to our lives does not lie on the other side of a nomansland that was set apart without our consent it lies within our own boundaries here and now we have seen it and we know it.
Put the guns into our hands and we will use them. Give us the slogans and we will turn them into realities. Sing the battle hymns and we will take them up where you left off. Not one not ten not ten thousand not a million not ten millions not a hundred millions but a billion two billions of us all the people of the world we will have the slogans and we will have the hymns and we will have the guns and we will use them and we will live. Make no mistake of it we will live. We will be alive and we will walk and talk and eat and sing and laugh and feel and love and bear our children in tranquillity in security in decency in peace. You plan the wars you masters of men plan the wars and point the way and we will point the gun.

Quebec gives nod to private health insuranceCanada is currently the only major industrialized country in the world that does not allow any private administration of health-care services that are provided by the public system. Which is why Quebec and Alberta are looking to European models of P3 delivery of health care, in order to avoid the repulsion Canadians have for American style health care....This is going to be the election issue for the NDP come the Federal Election and its the one that they can use to differentiate themselves from the Liberals.....

Election time is nearing and the Martin Liberals are now all gun ho about Law and Order...and of course controlling guns...its a big issue in Toronto....so once again in order to garner Ontario votes the Liberals are announcing programs to fight guns and gangs..tougher gun laws and cuddling teenage criminals......Supreme Court to hear eight-ball murder case What outraged the community was the sentence for the crime: one day.The killer was 15 years old and had already spent four months in jail. The judge said he couldn't impose a longer jail sentence under the law. On Thursday the Supreme Court will hear that case, and a similar B.C. case, because there's confusion about the application of the Youth Criminal Justice Act that replaced the Young Offenders Act.
Community programs needed to help curb youth violence: Martin
Martin announced the creation of a $50-million Gun Violence and Gang Prevention Fund, as part of the national crime prevention strategy. Some of the funding will go to helping prevent young people from entering gangs and leaving them. Toronto has been plagued by a series of shootings. The Ontario government recently announced it was boosting the number of police and Crown prosecutors for the guns and gangs task force in Canada's largest city.
Oh please this is the same Liberal party that brought you the Canadian Firearms Registry in response to lobbying by anti-gun liberals in Toronto. And it has been a roaring success as the increase in gun violence in Toronto has shown.
Meanwhile the usual liberal social welfare types try and tell us that its a ghetto problem,
Despair and frustration at Toronto's Jane and Finch But Ms. Parsons, a leader of the Coalition of African Canadian Organizations, said the Prime Minister has not listened to the concerns of the black community. She said she worries that this week's announcement stems more from political pressure in Ottawa than concern about violence in Toronto's black community. Except that gun crimes and gang activity in the rest of Canada is not a poverty problem its a middle class problem. The ghettos aren't poor, they are the suburbs where the drug trade scores big bucks, new cars, expensive clothing, the latest toys, and is fostered by the gangsta culture of hip hop that ethnic based gangs embrace. In Canada the hip hop culture of the gangsta is the cultural niche of the gun totting would be gangstas here...and as usual the government plans to stop that by funding boys and girls clubs. Oh yeah thats going to work.
Obviously the Liberals need to watch the Fast and the Furious or perhaps 50 Cents new movie; Get Rich or Die Trying which featured a billboard promotion of him holding a gun in one hand and a microphone in the other until it was pulled.

And until you deal with the Hip Hop Culture of Crime you can fund all the boys and girls clubs, pass all the gun laws you want, but as long as gangsta culture exists and drug culture makes kids rich, well good luck. Maybe we should just leagalize all dope instead and treat it like the medical problem it is; addiction. Until then it will fund the hip hop urban culture of crime.

Ralph Klein wants federal election actionAlberta Premier Ralph Klein has sent a reminder to federal Conservative Leader Stephen Harper that he's willing to help him in the next federal election.Although Klein looked excited at the prospect of battling the federal Liberals, he conceded that Harper may not want him involved. "He'll probably say I'm more hindrance than help."
Well after announcements in Alberta about the Klein agenda for privatizing health care as I said before after Gomery, this election will be about Health Care...and the Harper needs King Ralph like he needs a supposiTORY.

Liberals call for ASC head, after fine for not reporting trades Yep here we have the new head watchdog over the Alberta Stock Exchange fined for insider trading, now thats rich...only in Alberta you say....and of course this is why the province opposes a single national regulator....the ASC and BC stock exchanges are the most corrupt in North America. the reason fraudulent companies and insider trading..and now the foxes are in charge of the hen house...but of course the Alberta government sees this as business as usual its called self regulation..and who should know about crooked trading than crooks....Alta finance minister says ASC chairman's securities violations forgivable In Ralph's Alberta insider trading is a crime worthy of a slap on the wrist for stealing cookies from the cookie jar......

Security lax at Pearson airport - expert
So the government contracts out security at our airports, to private security companies which use lowpaid workers, and is surprized to find that we are NOT secure...and to top it off the whistle blower gets fired.....so ask yourselves why are we paying a security tax to fund ineffectual inefficient exploitative private security companies. Cause the agency doing the hiring is a P3. Just like the Firearms Centre boondoogle, and NAVCAN the privatized airport controller agency, heck even the airports themselves for that matter are privatized...all done under the Chretien Government, under Finance Minister Paul Martin.Airport security firm suspends employee who spoke to CBC NewsHe works for a private company called Aeroguard, which provides passenger screening to the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority [CATSA], the agency in charge of security at Canada's airports.

Hmmm here's an interesting set of stories. Polar Foods closes its plant to halt a union drive,
Polar workers win fight with employer
after getting funding from the government.....
Polar audit says taxpayers not protected
...and packs up and leaves in the darkness of the night leaving those same workers/taxpayers holding the bag....another reason why public funding of private enterprize doesn't work...instead they should have nationalised the plant under workers control....Which is what should be done in New Brunswick, since the government is for all intents and purposes funding the refurbishing of a closed mill...but without of course the safety of public ownership..cause both these provinces are ruled by Conservative governments for whom public ownership is anathema, while doling out corporate welfare is ok....wonder if this plant will pull a Polar Foods..... Province lending millions to mill owners

EI premiums cut 4 per cent The EI program which the government administers but does not invest in is the sole source of the Liberals Surpluses for the past decade....they have restricted who can collect EI, reduced weeks of earnings, and pocketed the surpluses...the upcoming reduction is a mere $800 million dollars given back to employers and workers who pay for the fund....and no word on the all parlimentary report that reccomended changes to EI to halt the government from the looting the fund and putting it into the autonomous hands of those who pay for it...nope thats another unfulfilled Liberal promise...cause EI is the sole source of the Liberal surpluses......

MY OTHER BLOGS
I currently run four blogs and over the past decade have had multiple web pages. Le Revue Gaucher is for longer features, which is supplemented by this site at modblog for news and my views of the current crisis state of capitalism and the resistance of capitalisms subjects.

LE REVUE GAUCHE

It is why my bloglines site has numerous news, activist and alternative news/blogs linked up to supplement my writings, to give an alternative to what is called consensus reality or the ruling ideas or the ruling class. To give readers more research links. And I can blow off some steam at that blog with my Devils Dictionary Redux.

My Devils Dictionary Redux

My tongue in cheek definitions of some common terms, with no apologies to Ambrose Bierce.
Also my bloglines news reader for all the news thats left.

HERESIOLOGY

Heresiology-for the little heretic in each of us. This is for my other interests in cultural studies, the occult, esoterica, science, crypto science, and all aspects of popular culture, as the saying goes; all the news that doesnt fit in these other blogs.
