alita g.

alita is a total sweetheart. she is always happy and makes me laugh even after her near brush with death when she was on a train that derailed! thanks alita for putting up with me at your apt because my boyfriend is too lazy to go to my house.

cathy

stacy t.

last but not least, stacy t!
you are such a caring and wonderful person. i miss working with you and your cute accent! i wish you and your family the best.

cathy

andrea r.

where the heck have you been? CALL ME!!
andrea is my go to girl when i have new york questions. she's been through a lot this year and i do not get to see her nearly as much as i want to.

cathy

michele

the shocker! michele is a fun girl--I have only known her for a very short amount of time but she's awesome. i'm so happy that her and jon d. found each other, they already make a cute little married couple!

cathy

zoe ann b.

zoe ann is my boyfriend's mother, and i am positive that she has not gotten anywhere near enough socks from her son. zoe ann is a wonderful nurturing person that always puts other people before herself. I could never thank her enough for all that she has done, including raising a wonderful person!

cathy

sarah h.

sarah's book of life is filled with exclamation points! this is a woman that is not afraid to go after what she wants. I love sarah because we are on the same wavelength and complain about all the lame people we have to work with. I am just waiting for her to move her rear end to new york already.

cathy

abby h.

my favorite jew! I remember abby cooking me dinner with "soy vey" a sauce created by a jewish boy and an asian girl (our peeps), dropping off cases of pepsi one to my aunt's apt and being completely drunk in chicago on jessica's birthday with the massage girl that refused to dress up, oh and jessica's $250 shoes that i wore. abby is such a girl's girl and I love her for that, she has a baby girl now and she is a wonderful mother.

cathy

lanh n.

although she is my aunt, lanh is the closest thing i have to a sister. she is a great listener and i also owe the roots to my musical tastes to her. she is the only one that understands how wacky my family really is.

cathy

krystal a.

krystal is hilariously funny and a free spirit. she doesnt have a problem laughing at herself, anybody else and life at the same time she's one of the most independent strongest women that i know. she was recently engaged! i'm very happy for her but i do miss her dearly!

cathy

erika k.

erika is my 'roommate' at work. i need to thank her for listening to me ramble about completely random things all day long and complaining about the bathroom and misc co-workers. she's super sweet and i'm so glad to be working with her!
go villanova!

Jen

One of my oldest and dearest friends, Jen is an absolute ray of sunshine. She's lovely, with a beautiful, genuine smile that makes women want to be her friend, and men want to... well, you know. Jen is the girl for whom they invented the phrase "I've got your back"; she's fiercely loyal to her friends, and would do literally anything for the people she loves. She's seen some hard times, but it seems each time life tries to get her down, she lifts her head a little higher, laughs a little louder, and keeps on keepin' on. She's one of those women who makes being amazing look so damn easy, and I am blessed to have her.

Pam

Steph

Steph's the one who originally socked me, and the gesture just exemplified everything she is. She is truly one of the most warmhearted, generous and caring people I have ever had the good fortune to meet... she's been socking it to me (I couldn't resist) for years, in ways great and small. She's also my four-year-old's honorary aunt, and every child should have the good fortune to have an aunt so cool. From great literature like Farley Farts and Captain Underpants, to stories she's written starring him as a character (she's a brilliant writer), she brings magic to his life all the time. I wouldn't have made it through the past few years without her. Steph is a constant inspiration for the kind of woman I hope to be when I grow up.

RENEE

Renee is another friend I met through teaching. No matter what I need help with (buying baby bottles, practicing comp presentation, needing a quick art idea) Renee is always there. She makes living in Bayview fun. Renee is such a blessing in my life - and I am very grateful for our friendship.

Eydie

JACKIE

I don't know what I would do without you in book club! I need you at every meeting so we can both either "not read" or "not finish the book" together. You are fun, creative, smart, and crafty. I am so looking forward to actually getting together and scrap booking. How lucky am I (and the other book club members) that you responded to the ad that Heidi and I posted on Oprah's website???

Eydie

JENELL

Jenell and I taught together for two years. Jenell (and Ron!) made a difficult job fun. I miss the "Teeth" unit and I am sure that you are missing my "Penguin" unit. I know that I haven't been the best at keeping in touch, but I think of you every day at work and how we got through things (aka - Mr. Burk) together. I was/am blessed to have a friend and co-worked all in one. You're a rare gem.

Eydie

JENNY S.

You socka me - I socka you. I love how we have such a history together and how that history is continues to march on.

Eydie

HEIDI K.

Where would I be without my Heidi-Bug??? I am so lucky to have a sister-in-law as wonderful as you. I love that we have so much in common - reading, decorating, toddlers, fashion, etc. You are always there for me whether it be to dish about Tom and Nicole's breakup, get to the bottom of the latest family issue, or to find an entire interview outfit in under 2 hours. I am glad that we are related because that means we're "stuck" with each other. Maybe I should "SOCK" Mark for marrying you.

Eydie

ELLEN K.

Ellen is a true blessing in my life. She is creative, fun, smart, honest (with both herself and her friends - an amazing combination), and an extremely talented writer. I am hoping to read more of whatever she has to write this year - with a selfish wish that the "Invisible Woman" will reappear (I want to read more about her adventures.) Ellen and I taught together years ago in Seattle - we were an awesome team. It is my dream that someday we will be reunited as team-teachers. :-) Thank you Ellen for challenging yourself, because that in turn challenges me to be a better person.

If this won't get you socking, I don't know what will...

Once upon a time...

I, Stacy Tornio, am Socksy Mama, and I started this Socksy Ladies blog. Here's a little background to how it all began...

A couple of months ago, I started thinking about how it would be fun to create some sort of an appreciation for women. My first thought was a chain-type letter. But then I thought of the last chain letter I got. It involved sending a new pair of panties to someone and then sending out the letter to other unsuspecting victims in order to get 50 pair of panties in return. Now honestly, who really wants strangers buying them underwear?

Well I did it, mostly because I knew the woman I was buying panties for, but anyone who has done a chain letter knows how these things end. I ended up getting 1 pair of very cute but uncomfortable panties.

I wanted my idea to be different. I didn't want it to be something where you had to give to receive. I wanted it to be a selfless act. I wanted a way to say 'thank-you' to all the deserving women out there. Then I came up with the idea of socks. Why? Because of these 3 reasons.

1. Socks don't make you look fat.
2. Socks aren't fattening.
3. Socks keep your toes warm. (If your toes are cold, then your whole body is cold.)

Then I had to come up with a free outlet to get the word out. My sweet, poker-lovin' husband, Steve, gave me the idea of using a blog. He created his own Poker blog a while ago, and suggested I do the same. I signed up on blogger.com, and 5 minutes later, Socksy Ladies was a reality.

So there you have it. The socking has begun, and I hope you help me continue the trend. If you have any questions about what you're supposed to do next, read this entry. If it's still not clear, e-mail me...stornio at gmail dot com.

WELCOME!

Socksy Ladies is about honoring great women...your mom, sister, best friend, co-worker, wife. Do you know a woman who deserves a little thank you? If you want to sock someone, click here to learn how.

Stacy (aka Socksy Mama)

S. Anne

In college, my Roommate, S. Anne, and I would stay up late with our noses in textbooks. And every once in a while, she’d look up and admit why she hated studying.

“All I want to do is grow up and have kids.”

S. Anne went on to become a CPA and financial analyst, but she never gave up on her other dream.

Not when she wasn’t getting pregnant and it seemed like everyone around her was. Not when it finally happened – and her doctor put her on bed rest for months. S. Anne refused to give up, even when her twin babies were born at 28 weeks, at 2.2 and 2.4 pounds.

While other people would complain and ask “Why me?” S. Anne had no time for self pity. She and her husband stayed at that hospital, day after day, until their baby boy and girl were ready to come home.

She quit her job to take care of them, and within a year, they were walking, talking and making everyone laugh -- calling for Cookie Monster and “Up, Please!”

Shortly before the twins turned two, S. Anne went back to work part-time. A few months later, she found out her little boy needed surgery due to his prematurity complications. Last week, doctors operated on his hip, which required breaking his leg and leaving the feisty toddler in a half-body cast for six whole weeks.

But when I called to check on S. Anne last night she had no complaints. She told me she and her family were doing fine. She said she actually felt lucky after seeing all the other families at the children’s hospital, who didn’t have casts that would go away.

If Socksy Ladies is all about honoring women who take care of others without worrying about themselves, then my friend S. Anne needs to be high on the list. The strength, courage and selflessness she’s demonstrated the past few years has been nothing short of amazing.

You are the Socksiest woman, I know, Roommate. And your kids are lucky to have you.

Cathy

One of my band friends. We met on an online message board for a band, and boy, we just took off from there, didn’t we? Trips to NY, MA, IL, MO, WI, TX…and all that to see the same band (and not even the one we met because of!). Cathy is a down-to-earth friend who would do just about anything for you. She is constantly telling me about the people that she meets in the course of her job, and she’s always saying, a little bit surprised, “And they’re just so NICE.” Which isn’t, of course, always the case. They’re nice to HER because SHE’s so wonderful. I’ve yet to meet someone that’s met Cathy who doesn’t love her. She’s always on the move, always on the go, and I’m in awe of her.

Jenny

Penny L.

One of my band friends. At least that’s how it started; we met because of a band. And took many roadtrips and lost lots of sleep because of that band (and many others). Along the way, Penny taught me a lot about myself. Her entertaining e-mails, IMs & stories took the sting out of an “I’m turning 30” mini-crisis (and I hate to think how long ago THAT was!). Penny is always ready with an ear, a couch, some advice and (if you’re lucky) some fabulous chocolate sauce. Hello Kitty!

Jenny

Eydie L.

My oldest friend. Wait! That reads wrong. The friend I’ve had the longest-since elementary school. While I’ve lost touch with dozens of people over the years, Eydie and I always manage to find each other again, and for that I’m immensely grateful. Eydie is the most endlessly encouraging person I know; she always makes me feel like I can accomplish anything. She’s got a fabulous sense of humor and fun; being around her is simply energizing. Chicks Rule! FOMG Forever!

Jenny

Sue B.

My mom. The one on my list of “socked” that deserves these the most. I know she often chose to do without things herself in order to get things her children needed and wanted, and I know I probably haven’t thanked her enough. The practical part of me wanted to send her thick, warm socks (we share cold feet!), but I hope she’ll understand that I think she needs some whimsy in her life too, and will enjoy the ones I picked out for her. Twinkle, “under foot” once again, Mom!

Jenny

Beth

My pseudo sister. Beth started as my sister’s friend (they met at college), but she quickly became a friend of the whole family. She is the hostess-with-the-mostest always ready with a freshly baked treat (did I mention she’s an award-winning baker?!) or a newly invented cocktail (she has been to known to bring a blender on trips). She is always up for a roadtrip, a concert, trivia, a movie, whatever, and she is always fun to be around. And she’s a GREAT storyteller…ask her for a lumberjack story. Or a roadtrip story. Or, if you’re adventurous, for an “Auntie Beth” story…

Jenny

Maren

One of my chicks. ;-) Maren is my craft-iest friend…she can simply do just about anything with a glue gun or a rubber stamp. I desperately miss hanging out with her, crafting, listening to John Denver and laughing until I thought my sides would split. Maren has one of the biggest hearts I know of-and a menagerie to match! I’m happy that both of our lives have moved forward, of course, but I’m sorry we live so far apart. I’ve never heard of such a thing!

Jenny

Lori D.

My oldest sister. Throughout my childhood, Lori was always ready with a fun activity-let’s go mini-golfing, out for ice cream, roller-skating, play a board game, throw a parade. And throughout my adulthood, she’s STILL always ready-let’s go out for ice cream drinks, Mexican food, to a concert. Lori is a modern day wonder woman…juggling a full time job and three active kids, not to mention friendships, church activities and various road trips. And she can still find time to decorate elaborate, gorgeous Christmas cookies!

Jenny

Christie A.

My sister. Christie is such a generous person-with her time, her things, her advice. She’s always willing to listen to me or help me out if I need it. She’s smart and funny, and she can start me giggling---about nothing-in seconds flat. I trust her opinion above all others (because she usually agrees with me…haha. Although we are so similar that it’s sometimes spooky). Our friendship is all the more sweet because we didn’t always exactly get along when we were growing up. I’m so glad that we live within a short drive of each other (and even gladder that we can take advantage of e-mail-I look forward to hearing from her every day!).

Wow!

I'm impressed...75 women have been socked thus far! Almost to the 100 mark.

I have received some great feedback from women. A lot of thank-yous. Many women who said the socks came at a perfect time to offset the stresses of everyday life. I even heard from a woman who wanted to sock her daughter because a co-worker told her about the site. She hadn't even received a pair of socks herself. She just wanted to recognize her daughter. I'm impressed at how giving so many of you women are. Thank you for making this a worthwhile effort.

We all need support and compliments every once in a while. People expect a lot out of us, so it's nice to be noticed every once in a while. If you want to sock someone or have questions about the site, read this blog entry.

Pam

The closet thing to a sister I¹ll ever get, Pam is a wonderwoman. I know she
doesn¹t feel that way most of the time but I see her as the strongest person
I know. She can party and have an easy girl chat. She knows froo-fee and
deep. Whatever it is, I know she¹ll get it. I always feel blessed when she
honors me with a Dr. Pepper lipsmacker kiss on the cheek.

Steph

Heather

Heather has an amazing grace about her. It seems she meets every challenge
with a shrug and her fantastic laugh. She makes being a mom look so easy.
Hanging out with Heather one just gets the feeling that everything is going
to be ok. She is so easy and comforting to be around.

Steph

Lori

Not much gets past Lori. Where does this girl get all the energy to excel at
all things domestic AND stretch her mind? Always questioning and always
re-examining. She hatches great plans for being social and even
overachieves at being a friend.

Steph

Terri Lea

To my sister-in-law. I'm so happy for you that you now have your "license to teach". I hope this was part of your dream for your future and I know you'll do a great job. Don't turn into one of "those" teachers if you know what I mean. Congratulations and have fun with it. God Bless!

Karen

Just to let you know that you're doing a FABULOUS job in getting walk-in tennis going in Sequim. If those men continue to give you trouble, call me, and I'll come and whip up on them.

Kim Clisters

Allison Edith

These socks are to warm the feet of a great wife, stupendous mother, caring daughter, loving sister and gracious friend. You've had a rough walk lately, so let these socks warm your feet. And may your feet move quickly on the court, patiently with McKenna and Kendall, and lovingly with Doug. You're a sweetie!

Lisa Jean

To my long time friend that I rarely get to spend time with. You have accomplished so much in your life and worked so hard to do so. I think of you often. We really don't live that far from each other so I hope we can get together very soon. God Bless!

Kassi

My co-scholar and running partner - thank you for all the support, the late night parking-lot chats, the proof-reading, and the reminder that I can take more on. Because no one, I mean NO ONE seems to pack more change and challenge into life at one time than you! But the beauty of all your commitments is that they are bringing you closer to what you want. Step by step - you are gaining a life that is yours to define, enjoy, and own. What strength and beauty there is in that! (oh - and heal that paw fast so we can get back to training! SD here we come!?).

Andrea

Cindy C-Y

Engineering-super-goddess-diva-mom. Whew! If child rearing can be considering a science, you have taken the challenge on like a differential equation that requires a pounding - I mean solving - in order to determine the maximum vibration of baby #2 in relation to the rhythmic algorithm of motion created by child #1 in order to minimize sound transference through, say, a home office wall. The beauty of you is that you persevere with grace. It doesn't mean you don't acknowledge the rough and tough, a.k.a. the hill at mile 23 or the all-night sick-fest party of four. But you step through it one foot at a time and have your eyes on the horizon. You once voiced doubt as to whether you were still that insanely positive person from your journal way back in 1996 (?) - trust me, you are. You still find the joy in the smallest triumph and the littlest step, whether yours or someone else's, and that is the best definition of 'positive' I know.

Andrea

Juanita Christine

My mom, the Karma Diva of central Wisconsin. She is one of the most generous people I've ever known, and she truly believes that there is a positive lesson to learn from all of life's hiccups. She deserves warmer weather, cheerier socks, and a geographically closer daughter -but today I can only give her one out of the three. I wouldn't bet on the percentage, but it would be safe to say that much of what is good in me is found in her - she tempered my life in ways I'm still figuring out and she bore the brunt of much of that tempering. May we continue to lean on each other in all the right ways.

Kimberly Jo

Even though you have reached the thrilling thirties, you will always be my love-you-infinity Kimmy Ko Ko Puff. From the moment you "sauntered" into my world, you have placed a song and endless smiles in my heart. There is such a long list of reasons I admire you...first and foremost, and that for which I am over-the-top grateful, you are a sweet fragrance of Jesus wherever you are and to whomever you touch. You are funny and full of a sense of adventure. Thank you for sharing with me your boundless laughter and ability to make even the simple things in life so much fun. You are bursting with a desire to know all you can possibly know, and more! The Lord has truly gifted you to teach; you do it with such style (bunda spelling), grace and joy. You are fiercely loyal. I respect your honesty and integrity and besides that, you are cute 'n cozy! I have loved watching you blossom as a wife to your own personal police officer. You are even lovelier as a woman in love. Someday, when you have children of your own, you will then understand just how much I love you, dear daughter. Just think, we'll have all of eternity for tea parties and laughter!
