What is Naturopathic Medicine?

A Naturopathic Physician(ND) is a primary care general practitioner trained as an expert in natural medicine. Naturopathic medicine concentrates on whole-client wellness - the medicine is tailored to the client and emphasizes prevention and self-care. Naturopathic medicine attempts to find the underlying cause of the client's condition rather than focusing solely on symptomatic treatment. For example, congestion might be caused by a food allergy or and environmental factor - a naturopathic physician would focus the treatment on these causal factors. Naturopathic physicians cooperate with all other branches of medical science referring clients to other practitioners for diagnosis or treatment when appropriate. Our practitioners utilize integrated function medicine into their practice. They use science and research based protocols to individualize treatment plans specific to our clients needs. Laboratory testing is often used; physical exams, nutritional and dietary assessments, metabolic analysis, and allergy testing are also done as a means to determine your personal health care needs. As with all physicians, NDs refer to specialists or other health care providers when appropriate. Naturopathic practice blends centuries-old natural, non-toxic therapies with current advances in the science of health and human systems covering all aspects of family health from prenatal to geriatric care.
