formed with HQ at Nelson by regimentation of existing squadrons:
 
  • A Sqn (Marlborough Mounted Rifle Volunteers) at Blenheim. Raised 08.05.1885.
  • B Sqn (Wakatu Mounted Rifle Volunteers) at Nelson. Raised 10.03.1900.
  • C Sqn (Takaka Mounted Rifle Volunteers) at Takaka. Raised 05.04.1900.
  • D Sqn (Motueka Mounted Rifle Volunteers) at Motueka. Raised 10.09.1900.
1911.03.17 10th (Nelson) Mounted Rifles
HQ at Nelson
1917 10th (Nelson and Marlborough) Mounted Rifle Regiment
1921 The Nelson-Marlborough Mounted Rifles
1941.02.03 began mobilisation for war (completed 15 Dec. 1941)
1942.01.01 10th Light Armoured Fighting Vehicles Regiment (Nelson-Marlborough Mounted Rifles)
1944.03.29 amalgamated with 1st Light Armoured Fighting Vehicles Regiment (Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry), and 5th Light Armoured Fighting Vehicles Regiment (Otago Mounted Rifles), to form 3rd Armoured Regiment
