1/8th Battalion

Formed at Derby on 16 October 1914. Became part of 2nd Notts. & Derby Brigade, 2nd North Midland Division. August 1915 : formation became the 176th Brigade, 59th Division. 7 May 1918 : reduced to cadre strength. 7 June 1918 : transferred to 16th Division. 17 June 1918 : transferred to 34th Division. 28 June 1918 : transferred to 117th Brigade, 39th Division. 3 August 1918 : disbanded in France.

2/6th Battalion
Formed at Chesterfield on 14 September 1914. Became part of 2nd Notts. & Derby Brigade, 2nd North Midland Division. August 1915 : formation became the 176th Brigade, 59th Division. 7 May 1918 : reduced to cadre strength, and moved to Lines of Communication. 31 July 1918 : disbanded in France.

2/7th (Robin Hood) Battalion
Formed at Nottingham on 19 September 1914. Became part of 2nd Notts. & Derby Brigade, 2nd North Midland Division. August 1915 : formation became the 176th Brigade, 59th Division. 6 February 1918 : absorbed by 1/7th Bn.

2/8th Battalion
Formed at Newark on 11 September 1914. Became part of 2nd Notts. & Derby Brigade, 2nd North Midland Division. August 1915 : formation became the 176th Brigade, 59th Division. 6 February 1918 : disbanded in France.

3/4th to 3/8th Battalions
Formed at home stations in March 1915 (3/8th in February). 8 April 1916 : became 5th to 8th (Reserve) Bns; eventually 5th absorbed 6th, and 7th absorbed 8th. Remained in UK throughout the war.

21st Battalion
1 January 1917, the 29th Provisional Bn became the 21st Sherwood Foresters. It had been formed in June 1915 from Home Service personnel. Disbanded in England in January 1918.

9th (Service) Battalion

Formed at Derby, 24 August 1914, as part of K1. August 1914 : attached to 33rd Brigade, 11th (Northern) Division.


10th (Service) Battalion
Formed at Derby, 13 September 1914, as part of K2. September 1914 : attached to 51st Brigade, 17th (Northern) Division.

11th (Service) Battalion
Formed at Derby, 3 October 1914, as part of K3. October 1914 : attached to 70th Brigade, 23rd Division. 18 October 1915 : Brigade moved to 8th Division, returning 17 July 1916. 13 September 1918 : left Division and moved to France. 18 September 1918 : attached to 74th Brigade, 25th Division.

12th (Service) Battalion (Pioneers)
Formed at Derby, 1 October 1914, as part of K3. October 1914 : attached as Army Troops to 24th Division, becoming Pioneers April 1915.

13th (Reserve) Battalion
Formed in Plymouth, October 1914, as a Service battalion of K3. November 1914 : transferred to K4, attached to 98th Brigade, original 33rd Division. 10 April 1915 : became a second Reserve battalion (after the 3rd and 4th Bns). 1 September 1916 : became 12th Training Reserve Battalion of 3rd Reserve Brigade.

14th (Reserve) Battalion
Formed in Lichfield, October 1914, as a Service battalion of K4, in 91st Brigade, original 30th Division. 10 April 1915 : became a second Reserve battalion (after the 3rd and 4th Bns). 1 September 1916 : became 13th Training Reserve battalion of 3rd Reserve Brigade.

15th (Service) Battalion (Nottingham) War Diary
Formed at Nottingham, February 1915, by the Mayor and a Committee, as a Bantam Bn. June 1915 : attached to 105th Brigade, 35th Division.

16th (Service) Battalion (Chatsworth Rifles)
Formed at Derby, 16 April 1915, by the Duke of Devonshire and the Derbyshire TF Association. 2 September 1915 : attached to 117th Brigade, 39th Division. 16 May 1918 : reduced to cadre strength. 16 August 1918 : transferred to 197th Brigade, 66th Division.

17th (Service) Battalion (Welbeck Rangers)
Formed at Nottingham, 1 June 1915, by the Mayor and a Recruiting Committee. October 1915 : attached to 117th Brigade, 39th Division. 12 February 1918 : disbanded in France.

18th (Service) Battalion
Formed at Derby, 27 July 1915, as a Bantam Bn. October 1915 : attached to 121st Brigade, 40th Division. 2 April 1916 : absorbed by the 13th Bn, the Yorkshire Regiment.

19th (Reserve) Battalion
Formed in Brocklesby, August 1915, as a local Reserve Bn. 1 September 1916 : absorbed into the Training Reserve battalions of 19th Reserve Brigade.
Other units
20th (Labour) Battalion
Formed in Derby in May 1916. June 1916 : landed in France, moved to Fifth Army. April 1917 : transferred to Labour Corps as 28th and 29th Labour Coys.

1st Garrison Battalion

Formed at Lichfield in July 1915, and moved in October to Malta and then onto Egypt, where it remained.
