Press Release Car Park and Centre Closure
Castlepoint we've thought of everything

6th December 18.00

Castlepoint Management is pleased to announce that progress has been made on developing a programme of work that will lead to a progressive re-opening of the car park at Castlepoint Shopping Centre. Kier Group delivered the programme of work for this interim solution to the Partnership this morning.

The programme of work will be phased and the first phase has begun, and once complete will allow approximately 650 spaces at the Sainsburys end of the car park to be re-opened. As a result of this work, we will also be able to use a further 350 spaces under Sainsburys, which are unaffected by the car park issues. This will bring the number of spaces available to 1000. Subject to the progress of the work and final inspections by Health and Safety experts, we hope that these spaces will re-open on the 19th December.

Once the first phase is complete, then work will continue allowing for a sequential re-opening over the forthcoming weeks on the same basis.

Castlepoint Management has communicated this information to the retailers and over the next few days will be discussing with them what their intentions will be once the first phase is complete. Castlepoint will announce which shops and facilities will be open once this consultation has taken place.

In addition, Castlepoint management continues to work closely with Bournemouth Borough Council on other contingencies such as Park and Ride schemes which will assist shoppers and visitors to access the Centre once it has re-opened.

While Castlepoint and engineers have been working on the interim solution, the Castlepoint Partnership remains committed to finding a long term solution to the car park problems.

“The decision we took on 1st December was very difficult from a commercial point of view, but from the health and safety point of view it was very easy. We will not compromise on safety. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the council, the police, the local community and our contractors for their support and hard work and also say that we do understand the frustrations of the tenants, shoppers and visitors and would like to thank them for their patience. “said David Paine on behalf of the Castlepoint Partnership.

A message from the Castlepoint Management Team

As a result of health and safety issues at Castlepoint’s car park, a decision was taken on November 30th to close the centre and car park until further notice.

Whilst there are no concerns about the safety of the centre itself, without a functioning car park we cannot keep Castlepoint open.

We are working closely with our contractors, engineers and health and safety advisors to find a long term solution and as soon as this is achieved we will reopen.

We are acutely aware of how this will affect shoppers, especially at this time of year and we truly regret the situation. However, our prime concern must be for the safety of all our shoppers and everyone who works at Castlepoint.

The following shops, restaurants and banks on Hamblin Way are unaffected and remain open with limited parking: Frankie & Benny’s, Nando’s, Barclays and NatWest Banks, Carphone Warehouse, The Link, Lakeland and Jessops.

The following helpline number 01202 598297 will provide up to date information on a daily basis as will our website at www.castlepointshopping.com.

Partial re-opening of the Car Park – 20th December

Castlepoint Management is pleased to announce that the first phase of the interim solution for the re-opening of the car park at Castlepoint is nearing completion. The work carried out by Kier will allow the re-opening of 650 car spaces at the Sainsburys end of the car park. As a result of this work, Castlepoint Management will be able to put a further 350 spaces into use which are located underneath Sainsburys. This will result in a total of 1,000 spaces. Once the work is completed there will be stringent health and safety inspections after which the spaces will be opened.

Following extensive consultations with Bournemouth Council, the Police and Emergency Services, and in seeking to address their concerns, Castlepoint Management have concluded that some stores will not be able to open on the 20th December.

Completion of the first phase allows Castlepoint Management to confirm that the following stores, in the Western Gallery, will be open from 20th December: Allsports, Clarks, GAP, H&M, Robert Dyas, Virgin and TK MAXX.

Once the work is complete, and health and safety advisers have inspected them, Castlepoint Management will announce which areas will re-open in the forthcoming weeks and the shops which will be opening as a result of this work.

Castlepoint Management would like to take this opportunity to ask those visiting the Centre to bear in mind the reduced facilities and plan their trips accordingly so that any disruption to the local area can be minimised. Castlepoint Management advises shoppers and visitors to check in advance the stores they wish to visit are open and request that visitors and shoppers do not park in side roads in the vicinity of the Centre and that they follow any instructions from Castlepoint staff.

“We are very pleased to be able to announce this progress today. We are grateful to the Bournemouth Council for their advice and assistance and to our retailers for their understanding.
