Mayor Bloomberg Announces Agreement With Transit Alliance Companies; All Franchise Private Bus Lines Will Be Operated by MTA

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg announced that New York City and the Transit Alliance Companies have signed a contract providing for the transition of the franchise bus service provided by Command, Green Jamaica and Triboro Bus Companies to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). Command's transfer will occur on December 5th, Green's on January 9th, Jamaica's on January 30th and Triboro’s on February 20th.

Tokens are no longer accepted on buses. Refunds for unused tokens can only be made in person at:

The New York City Department of Transportation's bus system includes a mix of local and express bus service provided by the following private, franchised bus companies.

The following information includes general fare information, route numbers, route names, areas served, the name of the company operating the service and phone numbers for route and schedule information.

Bus Ridership Survey and Route Analysis
The Department of Transportation hired a consultant team to conduct a bus ridership survey and route efficiency study of the private franchised carriers in the Bronx and Queens. This included bus lines operated by Green Bus Lines, Jamaica Buses, Liberty Lines Express, New York Bus Service, Queens Surface Corporation, and Triboro Coach. The bus operator in Brooklyn, Command Bus Company, was not included in this study.
