Tatu Dangerous And Moving

PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 14 October 2005
Tatu Dangerous And MovingThe justified aggression, the mistrust of mankind and the edgy pop rhythms designed to leave every listener with a paper-cut, are gone from this second offering from the Russian minxes with a tendency to embrace on stage and a penchant for performing with firearms as props. The vocals are intense and high-pitched but manage to avoid sounding like the ambivalent, soppy trite James Blunt comes out with. Pop briefly embraces the intensity and ferocity of the rave culture as pumping rhythms summon the most beautiful of vocals; listening to the record akin to being pricked by poison ivy.

‘Loves Me Not’ is gothic in temperament and plays with its audience; calling out to all who will heed the call that: “she loves me”.  Tatu show remarkable skill in turning the taunts of their most ardent detractors into a selling point for the band and a subject for discussion under the influence of dry wit. The upbeat ‘Friend Or Foe’ is tinged with darkness and features a memorable, awesome performance by Sting on bass. The track has a rockier edge and the lyrics drill themselves into your head until you find yourself humming along in bliss ignorance. ‘Dangerous and Moving’ burns rubber and leaves the music scene smouldering in the wake of its all too sudden, abrupt absence. The bonus tracks descend into familiar territory with the duo switching back to their beloved Russian language and still, somehow, managing to make beautiful music together.

Those who- after hearing the debut release from Tatu- bought this record fully expecting a repeat performance, are going to be disappointed. A record that blows away the competition and scatters the critics into an autumn breeze will reward those expecting to see a duo that have developed and improved with age.
