THE BRONX HIGH SCHOOL OF SCIENCE SPEECH & DEBATE TEAM is one of the foremost forensics programs in the United States. Founded in 1969 by legendary debate coach Richard B. Sodikow, the team has, over the course of thirty-six seasons, claimed almost every major national title in the activity, assumed dominance on its local and regional circuits, won thousands of awards, and accumulated one of the strongest records in the history of speech and debate.

Our team over one hundred members every year; in fact, it has consistently ranked as one of the largest teams in the country for decades. Managing a program this large requires good coaches and the ability to go on over fifty tournaments a year. Hardly a weekend goes by from September to April where our team is not participating in one or two tournaments somewhere in New York or across the United States.

Bronx Science is one of the only urban debate teams that compete actively and successfully on a national level. If it were not for the contributions of parents and alumni, our program would not be able to accommodate these gifted students with the expert coaching and funding required to travel throughout the state and country. In an activity that draws many teams from elite private schools, the Bronx High School of Science stands out as an example of how a public school can compete among the most competitive, and wealthiest, schools in the nation.
