FragFortress presents a full feature CS Christmas Flash movie, created by Fett, with a theme based from the classic tale of Scrooge. The 3mb movie, which runs for approximately 3 minutes, came out in perfect timing to say the least, and is quite simply a well made movie. Click here to watch it now!

Lastly, on behalf of CS-Nation, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Now go off with your new BB gun and shoot your eye out, kid.

No Steam Update Today
naem @ 4:36 pm pst - cstrike pc - 39 comments
Greg Coomer of VALVe brings word that the standard Wednesday update of Steam will not be released (hey, even VALVe employees take vacations). Instead of the update, VALVe wishes you happy holidays. What are you doing playing Counter-Strike on Christmas Eve, anyway?

The news from Greg brings diminished hopes from gamers backing a movement to change the money system of Counter-Strike, some of whom were hoping would be changed as a Christmas gift from VALVe. Proposed is a more spectator-friendly alternative that gives the Counter-Terrorists more money after a round where Terrorists let the timer run out. Rooker has made a plugin to do that and more, but it currently isn't endorsed by any leagues.

Official CS Bot Creator Interview
DchozN @ 12:42 pm pst - bots - 22 comments
Jolt Online Gaming interviewed Michael Booth, the creator of the official Counter-Strike bot. The fairly lengthy read consist of the usual background, tactics, traits, and other details of the official bot which is promised to not just have good AI, but believable AI. Furthermore, he also goes into detail on just what makes the bots special.
Will playing against the bots ever become predictable?

[Michael Booth] The bots never do exactly the same thing twice. They remember where dangerous areas are and respond to sounds, chatter from their teammates, player commands, enemy actions, and their own internal personality traits. This results in a very dynamic system that is pretty unpredictable.
It seems that the bots are definitely looking solid, judging from this article, and it is quite interesting to see just how much time and effort were put into this project, as they are after all, the official bots. There are plenty of more content to be found, so click away for the article.

Hello there newsbits loving fans all across the globe! There should be a clever introduction here, but who gives a flying bits.
» gotFrag has an article on the riot shield, and focuses on the good and bad points of the precious thick piece of metal that has been in the spotlight for quite some time. Some great suggestions in balancing the riot shield have been made, so therefore you should check this article right now.

CS 1.5 Server Update
DchozN @ 11:50 am pst - servers & admins - 13 comments
No, you have not gone back through time. VALVe seemed to have updated the HL 4.1.1.1/3.1.1.1 server series, and managed to fix the security hole in the X.1.1.1 servers. What does this actually mean? Well, it is now safe to put sv_allowdownload from 0 to 1! For the full info on this update and some download links, click right over here.

Day of Defeat Charity Match
DchozN @ 11:10 am pst - community - 5 comments
There was a charity match for war victims between the Day of Defeat Development Team and Clan Palestra. But what does this have to do with Counter-Strike? Well, Eric Smith, under the alias PainTrain, was in the action as well along with other big name DoD players. Their target goal has been surpassed, but more donations can be accepted by tonight. Again, this is for war victims and the clock is only ticking! You may donate right now by just clicking here for the entire details.

Goodbye Counter-Strike
Firing Squad has an article written by, what else, a Counter-Strike gamer and his farewell article to the said game. Yet unlike most CS gamers, this particular one is quitting our favorite hobby, and going out with an interesting read. In it, he compares previous games the writer has played and CS itself, past and current CS experiences, and some great merits into why we should let go of our favorite game and move along.
So, any arguments about whether or not CS would be better the way it was "back then" would be completely unreliable. I know I enjoyed it more then, but I've also been exposed to many more games since, and the community has had time to mature (relatively speaking). I could no more tell you the specific reasons why I found my latest stint with CS disappointing, than I could explain why I have a weakness for girls of average build with light brown hair, hazel eyes and a broad smile.
Although the article ends with a low note, it does in fact bring up great points and highlights of the aging CS compared to the recent other FPS games. You should definitely give this article a read.

Kquery 4
DchozN @ 8:57 pm pst - servers & admins - 7 comments
Kquery 4, a game server browser application that is still in alpha form, has been updated recently. It is similar to that of HLSW or All Seeing Eye, and it's definitely freeware! However, there are numerous factors that make Kquery different from the pack. After all, Kquery is promised to be "designed for flexibility from the start". Interested? Grab Kquery right now, my game server browsing friend.
