Last night, a press conference was held in downtown Tunis at the Tunisian League of Human Rights' Office. The room was overflowing with people, and the speakers included Tunisian human rights activists, Nobel Prize winner Shirin Ebadi, the major of Geneva and several Italian parliamentarians.

A lot of energy has been taken up in the past few days by the governmental obstructions to the Citizen's Summit and by the related "abnormal activities" at the Summit. In many ways, the problems those organizing the Citizen's Summit face are symbolic of the wider difficulties Civil Society faces in participating in the WSIS process- and in UN processes in general. This morning, many civil society groups hosting panels decided to cancel them or change their format in solidarity with the human rights organizations who have been harassed and even physically attacked by the Tunisian security forces.
