IDAHO VITAL & COUNTY RECORDS


VITAL RECORDS:

Birth & Death Records:

Required registration of Births and Deaths began at the county level in 1907 and was changed to the state level in 1911; now at the Vital Statistics Unit of the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare (IDVSU). Check the County Record microfilms in the Genealogical and Historical Collections at the Idaho State Historical Library and Archives (ISHL&A) or LDS Family History Centers (LDS FHC's) for records 1907-1911.

The Genealogical and Historical Collections at the ISHL&A also have Death Records on microfilm 1911-1932. Also see OTHER VITAL RECORD SOURCES.

Marriage Records:

Marriages have been recorded at the county level from the inception of Idaho counties. Registration of marriages began at the state level in 1947. Check the Genealogical and Historical Collections at the ISHL&A or LDS FHC's for recorded marriages, or write to the appropriate County Recorder where there are no microfilms. Marriage certificates since 1947 may be ordered from the IDVSU. See REFERENCES for addresses.

Divorce Records:

Jurisdiction of divorces was given to Idaho District Courts in 1864 and has remained there since. Registration of divorces began at the state level in 1947. Check the County Record microfilms in the Genealogical and Historical Collections at the ISHL&A or LDS FHC's for divorce information in county records or write to the appropriate Clerk of the District Court where there are no microfilms. Divorce Certificates since 1947 may be ordered from the IDVSU. See REFERENCES for addresses.

Most county records of interest to genealogists in Idaho have been filmed by the Genealogical Society of Utah and are available on interlibrary loan through LDS FHC's .
