Explore

If you want to just see the features of webnote, feel free to explore the sample workspace.

Webnote is a tool for taking notes on your computer. It allows you to quickly write something down during a meeting, class, or any other time that you have a web browser available.

You start by creating a workspace and creating notes in the workspace. You can save your workspace at any time and return to them from the same computer or any other computer. You can also share your notes with others by providing the workspace name (or url) to a friend.

crash -

An unrelated service on the same server as Webnote caused the database to crash. It should be back up now. If anything seems out of place (notes missing or something), feel free to send an email to me at tony@ponderer.org

The web server was down a bit over the past couple of days. Our hosting provider has been trying to diagnose the cause of the problem and they think it’s a hardware problem. They have replaced the power supply and the motherboard in hopes preventing future crashes.

Also, I’m making an extra backup of the database right now on to another computer, so rest assured, your notes are all being backed up and won’t be lost.

compatibility -

I fixed some IE compatibility bugs (like the position for resizing notes being way off in IE) and added support for IE 5.5 (windows) and Opera 8 (any platform).

As always, if you see any bugs, fire an email to tony (at) ponderer (dot) org.

speedup -
posted by tony @ August 5, 2005, 7:35 pm

I noticed that some page loads were very slow (like over 10 seconds!). It was due to me forgetting to include a database index on a common query. Anyway, the index has been added so now loading your workspace should be zippy again.

I’m in the process of a major re-write of the javascript. The new version will be more standards compliant, easier for me to add features, and maybe even faster. The downside is that it will break any javascript hacks people have written. If this is a major problem for anyone, you should email me (tony at ponderer dot org) and we’ll try to work something out.
