Congratulations are in order.

Above: Claire, tirelessly applying for work.

Can I get a what what? As of today at approximately 1:45 p.m. eastern time, my roommate, Claire Whitehead, is the proud owner of a brand spanking new JOB. Give it up, ya'll. Now that she doesn't have to worry about paying bills, she can spend all of her free time finding me a nice little occupation. Seriously though, way to go, Claire.

Wikiwhat?

There's a lengthy and interesting article about Wikipedia in the Village Voice. For those who haven't seen it, Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia that absolutely anyone can update and edit. It's interesting, and people are debating its value. I, for one, find it useful, but not everyone thinks it's genuine enough. Check it:

The Hold Steady: Coming Soon...

Looks at those guys! They're just like you, really. They like wearing suits. They have facial hair. For them, drinking is a must. OK, maybe they're just like me. But dammit, they write some fun tunes. Imagine, if you will, the most barriest of bar bands, weaned on Springsteen and the like, but with a warehouse full of pop culture knowledge. That, in a nutshell, is The Hold Steady.

On February 3, the band will play The Earl here in Atlanta. Sponsored by Chunklet, this show promises to be quite possibly the greatest thing since cheese in a box. Personally, I can't wait, as I really enjoy the records and have heard great things about the band in a live setting.

But here's what I'm thinking... Photo essay? We'll start with pictures of the cheap beer myself and whomever I can convince to come along imbibe before going out, then move on to pictures of the cab driver who gets us to East Atlanta, then photos of anything from the sidewalk, to the band, to random people in the bar, etc. Ideas? Anyone? Bueller? Leave some thoughts in the comments.

In the meantime, MP3's!:

Grrr...

Maybe Georgia postal employees took a cue from the ones in Colorado. That would explain why my house hasn't been getting its Netflix fix lately:

Isaac Brock appears in video news story.

The Modest Mouse frontman was interviewed by chance in a truly unfortunate news story recently. Video:

W New York Hotel Employee Said She Was Struck, Raped

new documentary alert: 10 mph

Look at that thing! Isn't it silly? Or, perhaps, AWESOME? Apparently, a couple guys agree with the latter. So much so, in fact, they're making a documentary called 10 mph that is based around the traveling capabilities of the segway. Basically, one of the dudes quits his corporate job, hops on the two-wheeled machine and travels from Seattle to Boston while his friend films the whole thing. I'm intrigued. You should be too:

Don't forget your blood, kids!

As a fella who doesn't like listening to the same kind music over and over, all day, until I'm so sick of whiny white guys with guitars that I can hardly stand it, I'm prone to occasionally punch walls, throw up the beast and put on a metal record once in a while. Looks like the good folks over at Stylus are here to help, as they're doing an introduction to the heavy genre all week. Check it out, I know I will be:

As slow as possible

Ever saw a concert so awesome that you wanted it to go on forever (or, at least 639 years)? John Cage started one that's still going 13 years after his death (and has quite a ways to go before completion):

Organ grinds on to 2640 in a concert sure to stand test of time

The first 18 months were silence! To me, that's hilarious...

This is the last time I'll post about this band you should be listening to right now...promise.

It's that time of the year again...

The photo says it all. Here's to a great 2006. Be careful tonight, kids...

You can make it if you try.

While listening to the above album, Sly & the Family Stone's Stand, the many, multi-talented minions of What We All Want took a vote and decided that it is more than the cat's pajamas. In fact, it's the hamster's penny loafers. Yessir. It's just that great. Go buy it now or relinquish yourself to a lifetime of Nickelback!

PS - Any DJ types who might be reading this should find a way to work something from this album into a forthcoming mix. Just sayin'.

Chronic-WHAT?!?

Pretty late to the party on this one, but this video is amazing. I avoided it for, well, whatever reason, but I ended up watching it multiple times today because of its sheer hilarity. Check, check-it ya'll:

Anyone (3kalb, Christopher, I'm looking in your direction...) want to make a rap video over the holidays?
