Looks like another allergo related sound problem (we upgraded allegro library to the latest version for this build).

People keep telling me that they don't hear any sound when playing.

I have a different thing happening: most of the times I have both the stable and the beta running. But since the allegro got updated everytime i switch from the beta to the stable window, the sound on the beta ceases and I need to restart the beta to have the sound running again.

I have reported this problem to the allegro developers: http://www.allegro.cc/forums/view/522886 [^]

Now we need some more information about the systems affected by this problem. Knowing operating system and its version, hardware configuration, directx version can probably help.

Operating system: Microsoft Windows 98 (4.10, Build 1998)

Directx version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

Soundcard configuration: driver:YAMAHA OPL3-SA Direct sound driver
Driver version: 4.06.0000.2343

Yay! the sound is working now, I just added this to my allegro.cfg:

Well, as I don't have this problem myself and can't test it, could you write some exact step-by-step instructions for inclusion in the troubleshooting faq? Thanks in advance :)

If you don't have any sound while you are playing ufo2000 and you get this message: Error initialising sound system: Failed to init digital sound driver, open a file called allegro.cfg (with any text editor) that file is in your ufo2000 folder. If you don't have that file, you have to create it. When you have opened allegro.cfg add these lines to it:

Twilight Owl

And does it work without "[/sound]"? Just because this type of markup is not usually used in .ini/.cfg files.

Yes it does.
