Funding for the Cadet Forces will be increased if NZ First is voted into government, MP Ron Marks said yesterday.

The party defense spokesperson told 17 Squadron News that he was in full support of the Cadet Forces, as they provided an important recruitment tool for the Defense Force.

"If NZ First gets in, the first thing will be more money," he said. "If the Cadet Forces are strong, hopefully that can lead onto the parent forces."

The party also supports the strengthening of the Defense Force, which would include the reformation of an Air Combat Wing as well as the introduction of an elite force similar to the US Marine Corps.

Marks was in Christchurch attending celebrations to mark the 60th Anniversary of VJ Day, which signalled the end of World War II.
