How Do We Want Posterity to Remember Us?
Egalitarianism has tried to convince women that dressing like a sloppy man is a compliment and a privilege. We here at L.A.F. say, "The empress has no clothes!" [Revised 6/29/03]

Developing Standards of Modesty in Children
As a parent, it could be easy to become discouraged with the state of undress in America. However, my husband and I have been pleasantly surprised at how the Lord has led our family in combating the immodest society in which we live.

Christian Femininity: Are We Resigned or Excited?
One day my husband and I were talking about women's clothing. I asked him what he likes and does not like about the way conservative women dress. His answer shocked me.

"That Which Becometh Women Professing Godliness"
Under the influence of the culture surrounding us, it is easy for the lines of distinction between Christians and the world to be blurred if we are not on guard. That thing that seemed so shocking at first glance now doesn't look so bad, and before we know it, we are participating in it quite cheerfully!

Growing Old Gracefully
As I come up on another birthday, I've been thinking about how I'd like to be as I grow old. I like watching older ladies and learning from their examples. I pick out things about them that are lovely--or repulsive, as the case may be--and file them into my mental filebox of things to exemplify or avoid.

The Fashion Battle: Is It One Worth Fighting?
We’re all too aware of the problem. Modesty…or the lack of it…is a hot topic that no one really wants to touch! Most recognize the need to address it, but many are at a loss as to how to do this. At the end of many mental arguments, complacency quietly announces, “It’ll be OK. It’s just fashion.” Been there? Done that? I certainly have. Read Article (Outside Link) ]

One sunburn can double kids' skin cancer risk
“True coverage involves wearing as many clothes as possible, Sarnoff said. Sunblock is important, but it doesn't protect nearly well as clothing.” [There are many reasons to avoid the "bare" look that is so prevalent today. This is an interesting FYI from a LAF reader.] This article reinforces the need for modest attire. If we are protecting our purity and dignity by dressing in a modest manner, we also are protecting our health. I have heard many people insist that it is OK to wear skimpy bikinis, tiny tank tops or micro shorts as long as they wear sunblock. This article shows how this behavior is simply not safe from a medical point of view. We would do well to follow the example of Victorian ladies - stay out of the sun midday, choose modest, light colored natural fiber blouses, skirts and dresses and carry a parasol or wear a pretty hat. Less skin is back in for young Americans
Hip-hugging jeans and tight-fitting tiny tops are out. Less skin is back in for the young American. U.S. fashion experts say a trend toward modesty is evident in new fall styles for clothing aimed at girls in their early teens, and will become more common with spring 2006 designs. [This is an encouraging article, but be warned--there is an immodest photo of Britney Spears used as an illustration. :-p] Read Article (Outside Link) ]

Feminine Maternity
one of the difficult things about being pregnant in this day and age is the seemingly never-ending search for modest, feminine maternity clothes. Even this season, when women’s clothing seems to at last be taking a more feminine turn, I find the only maternity clothes on offer in the shops are masculine, immodest, or exorbitantly priced.
