The Subways' lineup is both cute and potentially combustible: Frontman Billy Lunn, 21, is engaged to bassist Charlotte Cooper, 19, and his brother Josh, 19, plays drums. This youthful trio has managed to create an often exhilarating debut LP. Hailing from Hertfordshire, England, the Subways were weaned on a steady diet of Nineties Brit pop, Nirvana and Kylie Minogue, and these influences are all bubbling to the top of Young for Eternity, which finds Billy proclaiming his love for Cooper (on the ham-handed but endearing "Rock & Roll Queen") and reveling in the restlessness of youth ("Young for Eternity") among a backdrop of punk guitar riffs and sweet harmonies. At their best moments, particularly when Cooper takes the mike, the Subways threaten the Arctic Monkeys' position as the hottest band out of the U.K. Here's hoping they avoid marital spats and sibling rivalry and hold it all together into their twenties.
