Green Day fail to win over the original punk rockers.
Punk And Disorderly

Green Day have come under fire again, but this time it's not right-wing politicians or hardcore punkers having a pop at Billie Joe and co. It's moany old John Lydon, formerly of punk heroes the Sex Pistols, and more recently of I'm A Celebrity... fame.

He told contactmusic that Green Day's punk credentials leave something to be desired, as far as he's concerned: "Don't try and tell me Green Day are punk. They're not, they're plonk and they're bandwagoning on something they didn't come up with themselves. I think they are phoney."

Most of John's beef with the Day seems to be based in his own experiences back in the late '70s, when the Sex Pistols were genuinely considered by some people to be the end of civilisation as we know it.. He said: "The government's against you, the police are on you. So there we are fending off all that and it p***** me off that years later a w*** outfit like Green Day hop in and nick all that and attach it to themselves. They didn't earn their wings to do that and if they were true punk they wouldn't look anything like they do."

Ah, but how about the sound John, have they at least got THAT bit right?
