The name Cloherty (Clougherty and derivatives) was New Englandized by religious affiliations to Clougherty in the late 1800's.

Original sons of Ireland who settled in Boston c. 1850's included Coleman, who married Sarah Joyce in South Boston, 1860;  Thomas, who married Maria Kelly.

Professions started in the fishing industry, labor unions, and as years passed public service; most prominently the fire department and various other municipal agencies.

Coleman Clougherty, (second generation Irish American) born in South Boston 1875, married Mary Brady in South Boston, 1894- they were married for over 60 years.

If your family tree includes Cloherty's or Clougherty's we would like to hear from you.
