Search tips

Languages
Use the drop-down menu under the search box to search documents in French and English, in English only, or in French only.

Lowercase
If you type ottawa in the search box, you will get hits containing Ottawa, ottawa and OTTAWA. If you type Ottawa, you will only get hits containing Ottawa.

Wildcards (*)
Type an * at the end of a word to get more hits. For example, type tax* to get hits containing taxes, taxable and taxation.

Accents and other marks
To limit your search, type the word you want with the proper accents and marks. For example, type coopération to find only coopération.
To get more hits, type cooperation. This will return hits containing cooperation and coopération.

+ and - (plus and minus sign)
To make sure that a word is included in all the hits returned, type + (plus sign) before the word. To make sure a word is always excluded from the hits returned, type - (minus sign or hyphen) before the word.
For example, type substances +toxic -pesticide to search for documents containing the words toxic substances but not pesticide.

" " (quotation marks)
To find an exact phrase, type it between a pair of double quotation marks (" "). For example, type "Immigration and Refugee Protection Act" to get hits containing this exact title.

Remember that typing or omitting one letter or character between quotation marks will affect the hits returned. If you use this method, make sure you spell correctly.
