Get the EU out of Saharawi Waters!

Thirty years ago the North African territory of Western Sahara was illegally invaded by Morocco. Tens of thousands of Saharawi people were forced out of their homes. They and their children continue to live in refugee camps in the Algerian desert. Meanwhile thousands more Saharawis live in the Occupied Territory of Western Sahara, facing harsh repression and grinding poverty.

The European Commission is currently finalising a Fisheries Partnership Agreement with Morocco, allowing EU fishing access to Moroccan waters. More worrying, as the Agreement currently stands, it would allow European boats to fish in the illegally occupied waters of Western Sahara. This would violate international law and prolong the 30-year-old conflict.

A coalition of campaign groups, trade unions and politicians from across Europe and around the world has launched a campaign to exclude Western Sahara from  the EU-Morocco Fisheries Partnership Agreement.
