Seven years into his calling as a pastor, John C. Maxwell envisioned a ministry to other pastors. Noting and studying the correlation between leadership effectiveness and effective ministry. John observed the tremendous impact that strong leadership skills could have on a pastor's ministry. Therefore, alongside his traditional pulpit ministry, John continued to develop his mentoring relationship with a growing number of pastors.
As a result of both the demands and needs of this group, in 1985, John founded INJOY®, as an all-volunteer organization operating out of his San Diego one-car garage. Starting out with the INJOY Life Club® monthly audiotape program, John's mission to develop leaders of excellence and integrity by providing the finest resources and training for personal and professional growth was underway.
INJOY® moved to its current location in the Atlanta area in 1997. The business develops thousands of new and emerging leaders yearly primarily employing two methods: it hosts seminars and conferences across the United States and Canada; and it provides high quality resources in the form of books, audio/cd cassette kits, monthly tape subscriptions, instructional videos and online training.
There were 165 events scheduled in 2004 with over 215,000 attendees. Adding the audio and video resources, John communicates to more than a
million people each year. Sales of John's books exceeded 1.3 million units in 2003 bringing his lifetime book sales to date just over 9 million.
John's loyal following has expanded to include Fortune 500 businesses, professional sports and public service organizations.
