The future of downtown Seattle: Taller and Denser

Mayor Greg Nickels wants Seattle’s downtown to get taller. So he’s proposed a new zoning plan. In those taller buildings will be more businesses and jobs and housing. Some are concerned the plan will displace more low income people. City Council Member Peter Steinbrueck wants to require more from developers for affordable housing. You’ll have a chance to weight in when the Seattle City Council holds a public hearing on the downtown plan today at 5:30.

Mayor Greg Nickels has proposed changes to zoning in downtown Seattle. Currently those changes are in front of the Seattle City Council. There will be a hearing on the proposal this evening. Peter Steinbrueck member of the Seattle City Council, and chair of its Urban Development and Planning Committee. He's holding a meeting tonight on the Downton Development Plan. Michael Ramos director of the Seattle Alliance for Good Jobs and Housing for Everyone. He’s also the director of Social Justice Ministries for the Church Council of Greater Seattle. He will be testifying at tonight’s hearing.
