801

With today's update to the blogroll the Lefty Directory now lists over 800 left-leaning bloggers!

When I started blogging in November of 2001 I was aware of about 5 lefty bloggers: Oliver Willis, Matt Welch, Ken Layne, Tony Adragna (of the dormant Quasipundit), and yes, the evil Mickey Kaus.

The Lefty explosion began in the Spring of '02, and I set up this site as a response to the many requests I was getting for links at my main blog. Tomorrow the LD will be 3 years old, and I'd like to thank everyone who has submitted sites and linked back here over the years.

The Lefty blogosphere is, of course, far more extensive than our humble list here. It is just impossible for one lonely blogger to keep up with all the new kids. These days I barely have time to keep my own political blog going, so I will continue to rely on you for submissions and reciprocal links to keep this site relevant.

Please leave comments below with links to your new Lefty blogs, and also e-mail the url to me at havona2@hotmail.com for inclusion in the next update.

71 New Lefties

A long-overdue update to the roll has added 71 new Lefty blogs to the directory. There are also three new sites on the Hot List that are well worth a visit.

The blogosphere has grown at such an exponential rate that this site is clearly no longer a comprehensive listing of Lefty Bloggers. It is, I believe, still a good place to start, and I continue to get email feedback from readers who have begun their exploration of the Left Blogosphere here at the LD. A reminder: the blogroll is roughly listed in reverse order based on the age of the blogs. The new kids are at the bottom.

I've updated some links for changed URLs, but have not had a chance to purge dead links or dormant blogs. Should you stumble across a dead site, please drop me a note so I can clean the place up a bit.

Please feel free to add your site in the comments below, but remember to send an email to me if you desire a place in the next update.

Please also consider linking back to the LD. It is not required, but this only works if people can find us, and most of the sites listed here do not link back. It is increasingly difficult for new bloggers to break in to the game, and the LD is the one place where almost anyone can get a link and a bit of attention. So give the LD a bit of linky love, and if you discover a new hot blogger here please let your readers know where you found them. Thanks!

Post A Link

Since updates to the blogroll are rather infrequent due to my limited time for reading and adding new sites. I'll keep a post up where new bloggers can announce their sites and post links in the comments. Obviously, I take no responsibility for the content of links posted here, and will not be editing them with any frequency. Please keep your announcement brief, and only link to a blog if it fits into the broad range of "not conservative/not libertarian" sites. The initial point of this site was to promote any blogger who was not part of the dominant Conservative/Libertarian blogosphere, so the range is intended to be quite expansive. Explore these links if you dare.

Please note that to be included in the blogroll will still require an e-mail to the editor at havona2 (at) hotmail (dot) com. Please submit with the subject line "Lefty Blog".

Housekeeping

I've reformatted the blogroll somewhat. There is now a "Hot List" to the left to point you to a handful of great new Lefty blogs. I take submissions for the Hot List from a small group of top Lefty bloggers, and do not pick them myself, so please don't e-mail requests to be added. In addition, there is a list of "Essential" Lefty bloggers for those who are new to the blog world. Get to know them and learn what they do to be so prominent in the game.

There are also some new categories for blogs that specialize in certain areas. Take some time to explore these hard working bloggers,  and look for blogs to be added, with some new categories as needed, in the future.

This directory has grown far beyond what I imagined for it when I started it at the beginning of the Lefty surge back in April of '02. Hopefully, these changes will make it more useful for everyone.

Comments have been added, as well, and we'll see if they can remain civil and spam-free.

Look for more new content in the future, including more Lefty Interview posts by a major Lefty blogger.

86 New Lefties

Finally, a long overdue blogroll update.

Newest additions appear at the bottom of the roll. As we approach 600 blogs (!), it seems the more or less chronological order has served us well.

Look for new features, and possibly new co-editors in the near future.

To report dead links, url changes, or submit a blog, e-mail the editor at havona2@hotmail.com with the subject line "Lefty Blog". Without the correct subject it might get filtered out. Also, please limit sublissions to political sites in blog format only.

Is the next Atrios, Kos or Drum amongst the newbies? Go surfing and find out...

48 New Lefties

My apologies for the delay in getting this update posted. As the blogroll approaches 500 Lefty Blogs, it is becoming more difficult to manage the list. I never imagined the Directory would grow so large, and I still get new submissions almost every day. I've been passing on listing some that are not really blogs, and once in a while pass due to content, but it is nice to know that people are still using this as a resource for finding new blogs, and I'll continue to do my best to keep it up to date.

I haven't had a chance in some time to check for broken links or relocated sites, so if you happen on an abandoned blog, or find that your listing is not current, please drop me a note for the next update.

As always, newest blogs are at the bottom.
