    Hosted Sites - Mapping

Planet Half-Life hosts some of the greatest mappers in the Half-Life community, who's works range from expansive single player episodes to tight and fast multiplayer levels. In addition to the showcase sites, PHL provides a home to several map review sites, which work together to help you separate the good maps from the bad, and help assure that you're getting the most of your download time. If you spend any time at all playing online, these sites are essentials, so be sure to check them out!

Review Sites

  • Biohazard
    Stop wasting time searching for that perfect new map. Biohazard already has the best picked out for you, from standard Half-Life to TFC to OpFor to Counter-Strike. Even better, the site offers mapping tutorials to help those aspiring level designers out there learn how to better hone their skills. A must see.

  • HornetKing UK
    This map review site has been going for some time and outputs a large number of reviews per week with regular playtests of new maps.

  • The Neutral Zone
    The Half-Life mapping community has exploded since the game's release, with literally hundreds of new maps becoming available for download each month. To try and give gamers a sense of direction in the whole mess, a wide variety of map review sites have sprung up to help sort out the good from the bad, but these reviews are often long and full of technical information which many people aren't extremely interested in. Enter The Neutral Zone, a site which promises short, concise reviews and aims to give gamers what they want, and give it to them faster.

Counter-Strike Mapping

  • CS Maps
    If you're looking for lots and lots of Counter-Strike maps, then CS Maps has quite the collection. From assisination type maps to defuse and escape maps, CS Maps is guaranteed to have something you'll want to download and play.

  • FatFish
    FatFish is the product of work by a team of skilled mappers and artists working to produce a range of diverse Counter-Strike maps. The FF ethos is cliched and familiar - "Quality above all else" - but hey, we like it. We won't restrict our creativity with time deadlines or file-size limits - maps will only be made available to the public when they're done. When you play a FatFish map, you are playing the manifestation of our hardest work.

Front Line Force Mapping

  • Blueprint
    If you're a constant follower of the latest custom maps, or you're a mapper that has no html skills then this is the site for you. Mappers can get an account with their own .plan file, make their own updates and even show information on their maps and their progress. You can also browse the lists of maps and mappers to find just what you're looking for!

Science and Industry Mapping

  • The Lab
    A slick map review site focusing on Science and Industry, The Lab is a great source for not only the latest S&I; maps, but also some excellent mapping info and great gameplay tips.

Mapper's Sites

  • 3D Construction
    If you're looking for Half-Life maps, both single player and deathmatch then this guy has got you covered. An excellent selection from Dave Waters will really send you into crazes wanting more more more!

  • Adam Hawkins
    Adam, who has professional mapping experience with a game developer, maps for Front Line Force, Opposing for and more. He says he loves detail, and so even though the r_speeds may suffer a bit, his works will always be very pleasing to the eye!

  • Apocalyptic Creations
    Producer of some very fine standard Half-Life deathmatch maps, this is one mapper that you will definately want to check out.

  • Ben the Kuno
    A talented mapper who has produced several nice CS maps, including ES_Storm, and who is beginning to branch out into TFC level design. Check Ben out.

  • Cayle George
    Cayle George is a mapper who likes a variety of different projects, mapping for both Counter-Strike and Deathmatch Classic (aka DMC). He's also a member of the 15MM club, (which by the way has nothing to do with fire arms), aka the 15 Minute Mapper Club, who make maps very quickly in a set period of time (usually 15, 30 or 60 minutes).

  • Crinity
    A superb looking site with maps to match. Crinity maps for all varieties of mods and you'll be certain to find new mapping to whet your appetite here.

  • David Johnston: Level Designer
    A excellent mapper for sure and producer of very fine maps for your gaming pleasure. Both deathmatch, Counter-Strike and single player are to be had here so be sure to check him out.

  • DerekR
    DerekR has been making maps for the Kingpin scene for a while now, but recently has been doing projects for Half-Life. They include maps for the upcoming RATS! mod, Counter-Strike, and other mods in the community. Currently he is working on getting a few maps ready for release real soon.

  • Dmcb's Domain
    A single player mapper of very promising talent, be sure to check out his collection of fine work.

  • Doc Rock's Map World
    A whole lot of deathmatch maps brought to you by the same Doc Rock who brought you the two single player adventures, Conundrum and Challenger Deep.

  • EdGe_Of_FiRe's Half-Life Lair
    One of the rising stars of the Half-Life mapping community, EdGe_Of_FiRe has already produced several very high-quality maps, and it doesn't look like he plans to stop anytime soon. If you're in the market for some truly well-done DM maps for Opposing Force, you do not want to miss this site.

  • ErikN
    Formerly known as KwakkaSaki, ErikN is an exceptionally talented Counter-Strike mapper who has produced some really incredible work. Sample it and find out what he's up to now at this site!

  • FatFish

    FreakyZoid spends his days working for a pro game developer (heard of I-War anyone), but in his spare time he's busy enveloped in WorldCraft creating maps for Half-Life DM, CS and The Opera!
  • Grey Dog
    Grey Dog is responsible for a couple of Single Player Half-Life adventure's including ADAM and, more recently, Hour-Glass which received rave reviews at review sites such as Ten Four and Hangar16!

  • Gustavo's Map Archive
    A selection of some of the finest maps around for Action Half-Life, standard deathmatch, TFC and Opposing Force. If you don't own these then you are probably living under a rock, download today!

  • Izuno
    Izuno is a Day of Defeat mapper, who recently released DOD_Volonne. As well as his mapping creations, Izuno also has a selection of mapping tutorials and articles online right now to for you to view!

  • Manah
    A mapper who, when known as RAWBEEKSKiN, released his most popular map flf_miasma, which was included as part of the Official Front Line Force Map Pack #1! He's worked on a variety of different mod projects, and in various gaming communities, and his site contains those maps, texture packs, articles and more!

  • MOD Mapper
    Home to the rising star TorQue[MoD] and his collection of incredible levels, here you'll also find textures, tutorials, the odd map review, and the latest word on his own under-construction single player mod. There's plenty of excellent content here for the casual player, the hardcore mapper, and everything in between!

  • Neil Manke's Maps
    A mapper who needs no introduction for obvious reasons, he is a single player legend most noted for his releases of USS Darkstar and They Hunger in the Half-Life world. His collection of older Quake maps which began that reputation can also be found here, and are all of great quality.

  • Schrade Level Design
    Schrade, aka Brandon Renfrow, is a mapper who you may know from the HLDM and Front Line Force communities, but who is also involved in several other projects including the James' Journal Mod, Grunts vs Tech's and Tactical Front!

  • Squeeze The Cheese
    A very fine selection of deathmatch and TFC maps from The Cheese and this guy just keeps on pushing them out!

  • Tigger's HL Maps
    Producer of some great maps for Half-Life, this is one collection that you don't want to miss. The quality just keeps on a-coming!

  • Toni Hiltunen Level Design
    Toni Hiltunen has produced some very nice maps for CS, HL DM and TFC, as well as for Quake. He is currently working on some levels for an upcoming version of the Firearms Mod. Check out his work...you'll like what you see!

  • Vanx Karten-Atelier
    Vanx is a talented mapper who has map releases for both Counter-Strike and TFC. His biggest map release thus far is the highly popular de_celtic map for CS. Vanx originally started mapping for Duke Nukem 3D, and has also mapped for Quake and Quake II.

  • yak design
    yak design showcases all of Dan "yak" Paris' work, including his popular CS map de_descent, it's follow-up de_sabotage, and many other Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat and Incoming maps which he has created! You'll also find a few mapping tutorials on yak design as well, covering subjects such as inserting models into your maps and how to "hide" textures which the player will never see (thus lowering r_speeds)!
