NWA Women's World Heavyweight Title History
Notes: 1. Mildred Burke defeated Clara Mortenson to win the title. 2. The commission stops the match between Mildred Burke and June Byers, then they stripped Burke of the title, and awards it to Byers. Byers won a 13-woman world championship tournament in June of 1953 in Baltimore, Maryland. 3. Penny Banner won a battle royal to win AWA World title on August 26, 1961 in Angola, Indian and was briefly recognized as champion by some NWA promoters after Byers retired in January of 1964. 4. Fabulous Moolah won a tournament on September 18, 1956 in Baltimore, Maryland by defeating Judy Grable in the finals and was recognized as champion by NWA after Byers retired in January of 1964. 5. WWF withdraws from NWA in 1983 and buys the right of the women's world titles from Moolah. Moolah's title continues to be recognized as WWF Women's World title. 6. Debbie Combs defeated Penny Mitchell to become the champion, or awarded on this day after having won a tournament in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Kansas City promotion withdraws from the NWA in 1987 and closes in 1988. 7. Recognized as champion by WCW and the title was vacated in 1989. Combs continues to defend her title. 8. Reigning LPWA World champion, recognized as World champion by WCW. 9. May have defeated Sexton to win the title. The title was vacated in 1990. Combs continues to defend her title. 10. Stripped of the title by the NWA in October of 1996. 11. Strawberry Fields defeated Leilani Kai.to win the title. Then the title was vacated in November 2000. 12. Madison defeated Bam Bam Bambi to win the vacated title. 13. Was stripped of the title on June 19, 2004 for several no-shows at title defenses. 14. Kiley McLean defeated Kameo for the vacant title. 15. This was a No DQ match. 16. Christie Ricci defeated Lexie Fyfe and Tasha Simone in a three-way match to win the title.
