CURRENT RELEASE:
Concorder 3.1r1, 4 February 2001
Containing a bug fix involving the command "Export concordance as text".

This new release of Concorder includes software in native Power Macintosh code for significantly improved performance, as well as a version compatible with older generations (68K processors) of Macintosh computers. The two versions are functionally equivalent. Numerous improvements and new features have been implemented, and the manual has been extended and completely rewritten, since the first publication by Les Publications CRM of the Concorder package (authors D. W. Rand and T. Patera).

Concorderis a Macintosh software package for the creation, editing, sorting and printing of concordances. The user controls the operating definition of a "word" through the choice of alphabet. Using different alphabets - including several predefined in the software as well as custom alphabets built by the user - it is possible to analyse text in a variety of languages such as English, French, Russian, etc., i.e. any language whose alphabet can be encoded as one byte per character, written from left to right, and for which an appropriate font is available. The software incorporates a text- and list-editor with a rich variety of features. It allows one to build a "catalogue" of the words in a text document or in several text documents, and subsequently to process this information in order to obtain a concordance of the text. The user may edit catalogues to add further information (generic forms, translations, etc.), sort them alphabetically or numerically, extract sublists from them according to various selection criteria, and print them in a variety of formats either as simple word lists or as concordances displaying each word in all its contexts. Macro commands are implemented in order to automate major processes such as catalogue building and sorting. Several screen fonts are included.

Concorder is also available in French, under the name Le Concordeur. Both Concorder and Le Concordeur include on-line documentation in the appropriate language. However, the printed manual is available in English only. The language of the user interface does not limit the language of the text to be analyzed.
